Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo cancelled Eternal Darkness trademark :(

Nintendo could always do a game with an other name taking back the same principles as this one...

(secret of evermore comes to mind as a clone).

What the Hell did you think Nintendo was goinng to do with this?

More, what did you think they were going to do with this without Silicon Knights?

Eternal Darkness was a very special one-time sort of thing. It's perfectly all right.

Why, Eternal Darkness 2 using the Vitality sensor of course - that was the first game to even come to mind when they mentioned it. sigh, this is sad news indeed.

The line immediately following the bolded is very important here. No internal Nintendo team is equipped to handle this game.

I dont think SK is exactly a premium developer, Im sure that someone else could do the job well.

Under current status it says: Registration canceled under Section 8. Let's see what Section 8 is. From what I understand, I could be wrong, if the registrant doesn't not have a goods or service that uses the trademark by the end of the sixth year following registration, the trademark will be canceled. This isn't a good sign for those that wanted a sequel.

Too bad. It isn't worth crying over spilled milk.

Bring on a new IP with the sanity meter, and it will be the spiritual successor for Eternal Darkness like System Shock --> Bioshock and Odin Sphere --> Muramasa.

Everyone was happy with those "sequels", and a "sequel" for Eternal Darkness with a different name shall please the fans.

does what rhonin said mean they never intended a sequel in the first place? (section 8)

Only if Nintendo will license their patent on the sanity meter.

They should. cause if they have no interest in making the game, they should let someone else try...if there are any takers that is.

Sega should do this with 50% of their franchises too...Release Streets of rage, Vectorman, Alex Kid and other franchises that will be in limbo forever so people/companies that have interest in those games can actually make them.

^^^^ Nintendo might just use the sanity meter for a different game. Think about it for a second - Vitality Sensor can detect heartrate, so linking that to a Sanity meter might actually make for a REALLY demented horror game.

lol, I don't know. That actually sounds cool in theory but I don't think it will work well...
