Also does the digital copy require a lot of tweaking to run on a modern system? That would be a pain.

I'm not quite sure. All I ever got from the online store was WoW and all I did was download and install it and never thought about it again. For WoW it gave me an installer and I just ran it and it DLed and Installed it. I'd have to guess same holds true for the rest, but I'm not entirely sure. If they give you a CD-Key it's perfectly legal for you to DL a copy and just use your bought CD-Key to install it.
