Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will the next-gen Wii be more powerful than the PS3?

The reason I said late 2011 as a release date is because Natal and Arc may force Nintendo to speed up their time-table.

Nintendo is already running on fumes with their 3rd party developers... the casual market is what is sustaining Nintendo right now.  I don't know how much of an impact Natal and Arc will have on Nintendo sales, but Nintendo definitely has to be concerned.

The Wii already feels dated, and it is being passed over for all the big multi-platform games.

I think one of the big determining factors will be how good Nintendo sales are through 2010, especially the holiday season.

If sales don't grow or remain flat, then expect to see the new Wii earlier than later.

ROFL, NATAL and Arc will not be a threat to Wii, you really don't understand if you think that MS and Sony have any idea on how to target the downmarket, also the third parties have never been the reason for the Wii success, nor do they have any idea how to reach the downmarket, which is why they whine so much about the Wii audience.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I think it will be on par or just behind the PS3, Nintendo has never really been an innovator when it comes to graphics (bar mode 7 and the SFX chip) so Im not expexting much.

I'd love to see Nintendo be the first take on 3D TV with its next console but seeing as they didnt get on board with HDTV I just dont think it'll happen.

A mistake??  Staying SD was one of the best decisions Nintendo made this gen, that and motion controls.  Sony is the company that needs to learn from their mistakes of making their system too expensive.  Obviously Nintendo will go HD, but that's because it is cost efficient now not because they were wrong this gen.

Nintendo acknowledged that the Wii was not perfect.  It has definitely been an enormous success, but it has also lost the support of the 3rd party developers and hard-core gamers.  How many 3rd party AAA titles have there been on the Wii?  Nintendo hasn't had the equivalent of Goldeneye or GC's Resident evil yet.

Nintendo has an uphill battle to climb in order to retain their casual audience while also reclaiming 3rd party support and hard-core gamer support.

Not really, no, first off they dn't need third party support, or to worry about the upmarket, the benefits from the core market isn't worth the effort, which is why the third parties and MS and Sony are having a much harder time financially than Nintendo.

Nintendo has trapped these companies in a shrinking box which will not support them forever, all Nintendo has to do is keep the box shut and wait for it to choke their competition.

I see the Wii as the exception, not the norm. The next console will be on a more even ground with Sony and Microsofts next gen systems.

its is pretty much the same thing as the DS, and shares a lot of similarities with the NES as well.  No surprise Wii and NES are Nintendo's top selling consoles, and DS is the top selling handheld.  No guarantee they can do it again but Nintendo knows how to innovate, and they know how to market.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Doubtful, as Next gen systems have a fatal flaw due to the cost of game development, better to release a weaker system where dev costs are less and graphics are just good enough.

Yes. It could even be the most powerful next gen.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

Probably, as that level of tech could be sold for a profit at about $250. But, it really depends on what other techs Nintendo decides to go with as there will be advancements to their controller and who knows what else.

nah more powerful then the ps4 lol

The wii still selling hundreds of thousands, on a good day millions, nintendo raking in billions...and you want them to come out with the wii hd already?

Lets look at it from there point of view. Why fix something that isn't broke? I mean seriously they can keep the wii hd on the drawing board for years to come. Let them wait for sony or microsoft to make the first move.
