I fell in love with Ubuntu... <3 I don't feel like using XP again! XD

I'm sad for Sims though... I can't play it! I hope they will be more compability in the future.

@Konni: Do you have more than one optical drive? Sometimes one will work and not the other in some situations.

Normally I have but I see this:

First directory: Blabla HD: C
Second directory: CD/DVD
Thirs directory: Floppy drive.

And I changed CD/DVD with HD: C.

You could try temporarily removing the HD entry altogether.

i.e.

First directory: CD/DVD
Second directory: CD/DVD
Thirs directory: Floppy drive.

If that doesn't work you might have a hardware problem somewhere (either with your mobo or your optical drive)

Or, something could be wrong with the disc itself.

I don't know why, but I really hate the word program with open office. I can't even tell you what they changed from microsoft word that makes me hate it, but there is something. Also, Mepis > Unbuntu, and Opera > Firefox.

Hmm strange, I can do this:

Now that you've obtained the Desktop CD (either through a purchase, ShipIt, or downloading and burning), you'll need to reboot your computer to use Ubuntu.

Your computer's BIOS must be set to boot from CD first; otherwise, Windows will just load up again. To get into the BIOS settings, you usually have to press one of these keys during boot-up: Escape, F1, F2, F12, or Delete. Usually your computer will tell you which key to use.

But when I restart my computer I don't get this:

My windows just start again =/.

I don't know what I do wrong.

I go to Bios => Boot menu => first directory CD/DVD drive. Save.

And still it doesn't start X_X.

you might not have burnt the disc image properly. How did you burn it? Did have to make sure you select "create from image" in your burning software and didn't just put the file in the CD. It also won't work if you extract the iso and then copy the files to CD. You must burn the image directly

open the cd in windows, does it just have a single file? If so, you might not have copied it properly. The easiest way to burn is to use a program called iso recorder, if you don't have some decent burning software. it's free and it's simple.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

The installation went well... I used an EXE intaller insteed because I don't have CDs to burn... Took a while to find it... But it's called instlux. Anyways, I didn't do much the installer isn't complicated, just enter the usual stuff and partition the disk...

Anyways, I really like it... I don't mind that much that I can't play Sims on it... It's sure a shame but I'll (one day) get a Wii and buy some Sims on it so it can fill a little bit my Simming needs.

i really would like to try Linux myself. I should try and get it on my PS3 sometime this xmas break.

Of course, for professional work, you should be using LaTeX, which is also open source.

I love LaTeX, and used it for some professional work in college, but Office 2007 gives you 90% of the functionality of LaTeX thanks to a new structured document format, with about 1000% more usability.

Other free programs that aren't common enough to make it into my list but are also excellent:

Pidgin (IM client / MSN Messenger)
The GIMP (raster image editor / MS Paint)
Inkscape (vector image editor / Adobe Illustrator),
Blender (3D modeller / 3DS Max),
Scribus (desktop publishing / Microsoft Publisher)
OpenOffice.org Base (database editor / Microsoft Access)

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

Waargh, Isoreader doesn't stop to give me errors X_X.

Serious I am already trying to do this from yesterday.

I am going to catch some sleep now back in a hour.

Try another burning program?

1. Download Infrarecorder
http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/?page_id=5
2. Insert CD
3. Press "Burn to CD" on Infrarecorder's top bar
4. Select your .iso
5. Burn.

If that doesn't work,

http://wubi.sourceforge.net/

Windows installer for Ubuntu. It's not pure, because you can't remove Windows and you can't dist-upgrade, but it'll work without a CD.
