KylieDog said: Whatever is smallest. ESIV map was too big and didn't have enough to fill it, too many empty copy/paste areas with nothing to do in them. Could have done with being half the size, probably less. |
But Morrowind was far too crammed for its little space, it's not very realistic to find forgotten dungeons, ruins, rival strongholds and the arch-villain's lair all at a retiree morning walk reach from each other!

Both Arena and Daggerfall were completely randomised, while Morrowind and Oblivion were manually designed. |
Yes, so Elder Scrolls went the handcrafted route. And it got smaller, and supposedly more focused. And then, I would like to bring in Fallout 3 into the discussion here also and ask how big that was.
I was semijoking about the shrinking in size, because Morrowind really was smaller than what was done in the past.

Fallout 3 did it well enough, plenty of wasteland to explore with points of interest common enough without being too close. |
F3 is definitely in my wishlist. The only problem is my huge backlog, but eventually its turn will come!
Right now I'd like to punch Thieef 3 dev team in the face for the time they're making me lose, I decided to continue it from where I suspended, but I'll have to patch it with a no-CD crack, as its copy protection doesn't like my new PC's SATA optical drive, putting the original CD (and I cleaned it perfectly and reinstalled CD drivers several times and cleaned its lenses too) I can install it and reinstall it ad nauseam, all files are readable, none is corrupted, but when I try to play it gives "no disc" error... BTW the drive is almost new and works fine, Linux has no problems with it. Not to mention I'll have to set its affinity to only one core, it's so sloppily programmed that it doesn't like multicores and it wants to run with admin privileges... Despite liking PC games, I understand who likes consoles and hates PC gaming.

I think you can safely assume that many of those votes were somewhat unserious.
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
