Titanic is the highest grossing move of all time worldwide. Someone posted the numbers in another thread not so long ago. Gone with the wind is 2nd highest.

Avatar will get close though. Maybe $2,400,000,000 worlwide when all is said and done (Titanic's worldwide gross revenue is $2,900,000,000 adjusted for inflation. And as a reference, LOTR The Return of the King is $1,350,000,000).

Why the hate towards Titanic BTW? I haven't seen Avatar yet but I have a strong feeling it is just as clichéd and melodramatic as Titanic.

your actually de-railing the thread so please stop

Avatar will be at number 1 next week as it brought in THE MOST MONEY

simple

Sir, yes, sir!

Congratulations Avatar.

... How was that not relevant?

the thread is supposed to be a celebration of the movie reaching this target soon. people coming on here trying to stop that is derailing the thread

Well i mean it relates to the movie and the box office and such :-/

The data isn't wrong, just his viewpoint of it, in our opinion.

And yes, I am happy about it

Yesterday I believe it was 2 million away?

yeh it was, but the numbers are weird they keep going up by a few million then it will get taken off again. will have to wait for the hard data to come in mid week. now its back to like 10 million away lol

Have you been enslaved?

Is this the wrong time for me to bring up inflation? Or has someone already done it?

This movie deserves it =D
Its the first movie in so many years that I saw more than once in theaters

When you factor for inflation, Gone with the Wind saw (roughly) 3 times the ticket sales that Avatar currently has

inflation doesn't matter. Nobody's going to say that Avatar is number one,but technically because of inflation Gone with the Wind is.

Actually, I know of several people who have become increasingly annoyed by these records being broken because movie when it can mostly be attributed to movie theaters charging $15 for a movie. If you want something that is not as easily manipulated you should look at total ticket sales, which (in all reality) no movie will ever beat Gone with the Wind.

Yea but the argument that the other side could fire right back at this, is due to no "home release" movies technically stayed in theaters for longer periods of times.  Nowadays, most movies stay for a month or 2 and the high grossing ones upward of 4-6 months.  Gone With the Wind was in theaters for years.  So it actually isn't a fair comparison whatsoever, because if movies nowadays had no ability to be played at home or viewed without the use of a theater, then they'd have longer cycles as well (at least for the big profit films).

So while revenue due to inflation isn't a great way of attaining a good comparison over long periods of time, neither is purely tickets sold.  Unless, of course, we want to include DVD, VCR, and Blu-Ray sales as well in the comparison which still wouldn't be a fair comparison by logic standards.

OT: I'm very proud of the movie to have done so well as it truly was a visceral experience.  Great movie.

Around the Network

I will be attending this party.

In my opinion its a more deserving number 1 film.

Lol what a joke. I feel bad for everyone who watched this.

I won't even mention inflation.

A friend sent me this. You can't seriously argue that a film thats 70 years old, and had NO COMPETITION from dvds, pay tv runs, had multiple cinema releases and screening time of 6 - 12 months (as opposed to 2 months these days) is comparable, its bullcrap.

Honestly was Camerons worst film ever.

But it only has sold like 100th of the tickets that Gone With The Wind has.

I finally saw this and thought that it was good, but not great. The effects were phenomenal and I thought that if they ended it after about the first two hours, it would have been pretty much a perfect movie. Then James Cameron decided that people would be upset if didn't have a happy ending and turned it into the Ewoks defeating the Empire all over again.
