I hope Bastards wins.

Avatar was the most over-rated trash I have seen but I guess it appeals to the graphics whore generation.

The story was great...

.......... Wait. Are you serious?

Yes.

I guessed the story form the previews!

Sure the visuals were impressive but c'mon, the story was very unoriginal and predictable.

I thought the story was very entertaining.

The whole avatar system is really cool.

@Boutros and Wick

Avatar- Avatar's storyline was good, but as unoriginal as it gets since it is almost exactly like Dances with Wolves. You could say that all movies' plot comes from another, but most movies come up with a unique twist in the plot. The only true difference between Dances with Wolves and Avatar is the setting. I have no problem with it winning every video effect and audio award because they were incredible! However, it does not deserve to win Best Picture. If it were Avatar vs Up, i would probably pick Up every single time since even that has more originality and emotional attachment to the characters. Avatar's characters were not that great. None of them could relate to the audience, and the bad guy was a racist guy even though it's almost 200 years in the future.

Inglourious Basterds- Basterds has the best cast this year. Brad Pitt was hilarious and kicked ass! The audience loved rooting on the Basterds and wanted them to grind down Hitler's face in anyway possible. Shosanna(the girl who escaped in the beginning) had a life filled with anger and wanted revenge for the Nazis killing her family. The audience felt her sorrow and understood her rage. Christopher Waltz(the bad guy) is going to win Best Supporting Actor. His role as the "Jew Hunter" was so fantastically performed that I get excited when he comes into the scene. The plot of the movie was kinda complex since there were many people involved. Shosanna wanted revenge, Waltz wanted prestige, and the Basterds just wanted to kill Nazis. The best part about the plot was that it had nothing to do with the actual history of WWII. This allowed Tarantino(the director) to setup the plot the way he desired and allowed for lots of surprise unlike Valkyrie, in which everyone knew what the ending was. It was boring at some points and could have been trimmed to 2 hours (instead of the 2 and 1/2 that it was), but it doesn't hurt it's chance of winning Best Picture since Avatar did the exact same thing. Overall, I think Basterds is a worthy candidate for Best Picture.

That was frickin hillarious. It's amazing how much he's able to break it down and make fun of the various aspects.

When he explained the design of the Na'vi and put Titanic side by side making fun of the villains and the love story, I was laughing through the whole thing. Thanks for introducing this guy to me. I'm gonna check some of his other reviews.

It's a sad day when I see so many people actively cheering for a movie based on little more than visual niceties.

The Hurt Locker was 100 times the movie that Avatar is. Hell, even UP was more engaging to me just for the first 10 minutes of the film. Avatar wasn't even the best sci-fi movie of the year... Star Trek was more fun and District 9 was more intelligent and interesting.

Cinema is an audio-visual medium, and Avatar utilizes visual effects like no movie ever before. It's a much more important movie for cinema then The Hurt Locker, which is just another war movie. Honestly I'm tired of war movies/biopics/nazi movies winning best picture oscars. It's about time a sci fi movie wins. So go Avatar!!!

The award isn't for "most important film", it's for "best film".

I agree that sci-fi movies deserve more love than they get at the Oscars but Avatar is the wrong film to break that cycle. It's just not that good. Besides, Return of the King cleaned up not that long ago.

LOL, the award isn't for "best film", even though it has the word best in it's name. If they were truly looking to reward the best film than than than they'd have to nominate more foregin non-englishh language films every year. Also, movies like Crash, Gladiator or The Greatest Show on Earth would hve never won if they really wanted to reward the best film. This Oscars are all about politics, not about quality. If Avatar doesn't win it won't be because of it's quality, but because producers are envyous because Cameron makes movies that are so successfull and because actors are paranoid and think they'll be replaced by digital characters, and forced to become voice actors who are payed less.

And of course they'll give the award to a forgettable pro-Iraq war movie that no one's seen, and no one will remember 10 years from now. Raiders of the Lost Arc did loose to Chariots of Fire, and guess which movie is remembered and considered a classic today. Hurt Locker will share a similar fate.

His phantom menace review is even better. 7 parts to it but it's well worth the time to watch

"will/deserve to win Best Picture?"

Thats an issue for me. The film I think will win (Avatar) isn't the movie I think deserves to win (Inglorious Basterds).

I'm going to vote deserve.
