Forums - Sony Discussion - New 2010 Star Ocean 4 International Trailer

I wonder, those four are playable or just for show...

Around the Network

Just as I suspected.

None of the 'new' characters are playable.

In some ways yes, but in most ways no.

The only real similarities are that you control the character during battle.

your joking...or you dont plays Tales or either series that much: - Both Star Ocean and Tales allow for up to 4 characters on a Battle field. The player controls 1 while the AI the other 3( that can be given command to adjust there play style ) that can be switched at any time. - Both games have skills: Star Ocean its called battle skills,Tales its usually Artes( but can vary) that can used separately or strung togethers with characters combo default of even other Artes - both have the very Attackers and Mages - both games usually have the same composer for the music I mean I can go on, the only real difference between SO and Tales series( other than the obvious story and setting) is that SO has a Free run system...While Tales has a Parallel line focus( but Manurl fee run was aded in abyss which vesperia evoled from) but if they made Tales free run or or SO Parallel...they literally exactly alike... hell Star Ocean Blue Sphere plays exactly like a 2D Tales.

I disagree. The skills in Star Ocean are far too limiting and there are far too few to even compare to artes. Star Ocean may have free run, but the battles don't actually require you to move the stick at all, as pressing attack moves your character automatically. The chains you can do in SO4 aren't even comparable to the things you can do in Vesperia.

In regards to movement: What does that prove? Star Ocean is free run but it has a semi automatic( that you turn off), while Tales of is controlled movement with a manual free run plus Tales also has a semi automatic( symphonia snd Abyss did im sure vesperia does to from demo iirc) that u can turn off... this only helps prove my point of the 2 being basically similar. In regards to skills: Tales of has a slightly Deeper combat system..so? at core of these games there basically the same thing... Star Ocean Battle Skills are more Range/area focused.. while Tales focus's on combo's and of course it has more it would be boring comboing with10 moves...duh. The overall deal is the same thing different setting

I still disagree.

You can actually combo in Tales, but Star Ocean 4 has a very deep system. The blindsides and such make the game differ greatly from Tales. (keep in mind I've only played 1, 2, and 4.)
