Plot, get 4 lines in a row, hence "Tetris"
Harkens back to the Four Horseman who would wipe out the world like you wipe out Tetris lines.

Communism.

You must corral various dissidents so that they can fit together in a rail car, so that they shall be carted off to the GULAG and liquidated.

It was originally people, squished into various shapes, but the Soviet government censored the original version, into nice pleasant blocks.

Correct.

How peoples brains work.

You're a business man at a dead end job. You pride yourself on your organization skills. There is no task that you can't finish quickly and efficiently. Your fellow employees don't like you. They get together with your boss and devise a plan to cause your nervous breakdown. Today, they're going to throw EVERYTHING at you.

You're up to the task, though. You won't give them the satisfaction of making you quit. You're going to handle every job that they throw at you. So, the day begins. What's going to come at you first? Can you handle it? Will you get the promotion (and the girl?)? Can you pay for your grandmother's surgery?

Apparently not. You fall and hit your head and see a bunch of falling blocks.

Then you die.

Tetris doesn't have a plot. Its just a board game on the computer that a Soviet scientist did in his spare time.

Chess and checkers dont have plots either :)

Chess doesn't have a plot?  Two warring Kings using Knights, Religion, Castles and minor soldiers to utterly destroy each other isn't a plot?

ok... let me drop it back a step... has anyone BEATEN Tetris.. and i mean the GB version.... not the gbasp or the ww.. the gb version?

If you're talking about beating it on the fastest speed with the blocks starting as high as they can, yeah.  I beat it tons of times.  So did my mom, aunt, cousins, and step brother.

And, at the time, two player VS mode was about the greatest thing ever!  To this day, nobody ever knew that I'd unplug the "Video Link" cable when they threw something at me, and I'd plug it back in when I was throwing junk at them!!  I was virtually unbeatable.

Well, how about not on level 9, height 5, but height 5 on level heart-9? (Hold the down arrow at the title screen, for those who've forgotten how.)

As for "beating" it, nope, can't be done. I've not even made it to the level where Nintendo says that it stops speeding up. (Level 22, for those who are curious.) On the NES, I can get about 192 lines on a good day, and on the GB, I've hit 213. But damned if I don't think I can still improve! (I REALLY want to break 200 on the NES...)

You're talking about the "heart levels".  Nope!  I tried that once.  It was pretty much: Press start.  Game over.
