Gears became a big franchise because Microsoft gave it a HUGE advertising push. It was all over the airwaves. No other publisher would have done that. Epic is not upset, if they were they would not have done another exclusive in Shadow Complex.
One thing Mark Rein doesn't say (at least he hasn't been quoted as such) is that Epic have no interest or intention to develop for PS3. If they are 360 only developers out of free choice then I wish they'd be as up front about it as Valve, though perhaps not mouth off at PS3 quite as much as Valve.
"We're not doing / don't do PS3 games." Is that so hard to say?

I m not saying Patcher was wrong
I will just point out that :
- his comment were supported by interesting point (PS3 userbase)
- the Rein's comment is pure free claim AND no one is even wondering if there is not a little "lie" inside ...
Time to Work !

I don't that's Epic's position, though. They have put in effort to make sure U3 supports PS3 as well as 360 and have developed for PS3 with UT3.
However, whether they looked for a backer and MS said 'we will' or whether MS approached them and said 'would you', they ended up also being commissioned to produce a 360 exclusive title. That title was a huge hit and so they produced a sequel.
I don't see them having an issue with PS3, just that currently their own projects have been around 360.
Personally I think UT3 on PS3 was a missed opportunity for Sony they should have got more behind. UT3 on PS3 can have mods, on 360 it can't. Epic historically have been good at backing mods, etc. and it's a point of differentation. Sony should have put money behind advertising this and making sure their would be some great mods, instead of barely backing the game and just letting it release and hoping some gamers actually decided to create some mods.
Valve are a different story, but I think it's just circumstance that has Epic seeming to be behind 360. I can easily imagine them support PS3 in future, particularly now the install base has grown enough that it can support big sales of western AAA titles.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
Well, you knew they would be retracting their statements after MS saw that they had made them and gave them a phone call about it.
CGI-Quality said:Mark Rein: Pachter Comments Not True - We're Happy with MicrosoftA few hours ago we posted a story on what the almighty games analyst Michael Pachter had to say regarding the relationship/contract between Microsoft and Epic Games; Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, gave us his take on the seemingly impossible comments made on the Bonus Round. We asked the folks at Epic, what we already knew to be untrue, if they felt strained or pressured in their relationship with Microsoft and the Xbox 360. Read up on Mr. Pachter's comments in our original story, by clicking here. Once you are all caught up find Mark Rein's prompt, and to the straight to the point response below. "We have a great relationship with Microsoft and we have no regrets." Seems to me as that Epic is standing behind the Xbox 360 and their relationship with Microsoft, which by all accounts is making them tons of money. Gamers everywhere are expecting Gears of War 3 to be announced soon enough and I have a feeling that will be coming to the Xbox 360 and PC exclusively. Stay tuned for anymore updates on this story only on PlanetXbox360.com. http://www.planetxbox360.com/article_9386/Mark_Rein_says_Epic_Has_a_Great_Relationship_with_Microsoft You were saying Pachter?! |
I am surprised that anyone would assume this to go to PC especially with the piracy fiasco with Gears PC and the fact that they kept Gears 2 as a X360 only title. My guess is Gears 3 will also be X360 only.
How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...
Xbox 360 wants to Kinect & PS3 wants to Move! Why are both systems having such relationship problems? The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.
Can someone post a news item involving Pachter that is correct? That would be news!
