Forums - Microsoft Discussion - SPOILERS! First 30 mins of Mass Effect 2 SPOILERS!

This is the reality of the situation.

ME2-10 Presentation
Clean and sophisticated. Brilliant and cinematic.
9.5 Graphics
Exceptional artistic direction and a top notch-technical showcase.
10 Sound
Martin Sheen steals the show, even amidst all of the outstanding voice acting and music.
9.5 Gameplay
Tight mechanics, thrilling combat, and deep role-playing. The design is unparalleled.
10 Lasting Appeal
A remarkable achievement in adapting a story to your decisions. It creates amazing replay value.

U2-9.5 Presentation
Fantastic cutscenes tell a very good if not perfect story.
10 Graphics
Absolutely the best of the best these days. Your jaw will drop.
9.5 Sound
Great weapon effects, fantastic voice acting and a mostly brilliant (though sometimes overdone) soundtrack.
9.5 Gameplay
Great gunplay, stealth works very well (mostly), the puzzles are rewarding and, maybe even best of all, a killer online component.
9.5 Lasting Appeal
The game is give or take about 10 hours in length, which feels right, but then there's the multiplayer. Yes, you will be hooked.

KZ2-9.5 Presentation
Everything from the first entrance onto the battlefield to the last cutscene creates a hectic, fun and fast-paced thrill ride through a warzone where each step you take could be your last.
9.5 Graphics
Phenomenal visuals prove that Guerrilla either met or surpassed that infamous E3 trailer. Some technical issues hold it back from being a completely flawless masterpiece.
9.0 Sound
7.1 channel sound captures every nuance of the battlefield from gunshots to screams along with a great soundtrack. Weakly delivered, curse-filled dialogue (sans Brian Cox) could've been done better.
9.0 Gameplay
You'll have to get used to the firearms as well as the AI on both sides. More turret and vehicle sections would've been great, but outside of that, the single-player campaign is fun to play through.
9.5 Lasting Appeal
Multiplayer is extremely deep and has the added bonus of an offline skirmish mode. This is where you'll spend the majority of your time once the credits roll.

It seems ME2 is the better of the three due to the sum of its parts. Again, according to IGN.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

CGI-QUALITY. I apologize to you sir, my broad comment was directed to the underlying implications being made in these threads on this site. I've read several of your post and you seem to be fairly rational.

CGI-Quality, which is better coke or pepsi?

CGI-Quality. Would you agree that the presentation is directly connected to the visuals? I would argue that IGN is playing it safe and if you take the scores from both visual aspects into consideration, it's a wash. It all boils down to preference. Win win situation if you are a gamer! Keep in mind reviews are mostly subjective.

I've been playing ME again this week in preparation for the 26th. I want to have my Vanguard ready to go with all the choices lined up. Playing it again just reminds you of how great the games story flowed and I'm glad to hear ME2 seems to deliver the same experience.

Enjoy everyone, It's gonna be awesome.

I'm aware. That should be directed at people who feel absolute about it though.

Nice chat, I never would have thought in a million years I would be posting comments on one of these sites, but the amount of bull I read is astounding. You have restored my faith that some people still value reason. Peace and keep it one hundred.

I think it's pretty obvious that the reviewer meant other RPG's as ME2's competition. In which case I would have to agree. Proper working unbiased eyes could tell you that Uncharted 2, graphically is the superior game. That being said, the art direction in ME2 is much more incredible, unique, and expansive then that of Uncharted 2 which is also evident by the higher presentation score it recieved. I never understood how Mass Effect got such incredibly high scores, including many perfect scores when it suffered from so many problems and a frame rate that rendered it almost unplayable at times. I fully back these review scores and agree that it should be a GOTY nominee. This isn't anything more then I would have guessed a selnor thread would make a turn though.

And how is it obvious? You are aware of what happens when you assume. And please do not refer to me as being biased, you are way off base.

Obvious in that ME2 is an RPG and it's direct competition are obviously RPGs. Along with the fact that Uncharted 2 got a 10 for graphics and this got a 9.5. Makes pretty much sense to me. Anything else is nothing more then an assumption in and of itself. Really though, the dead give away is the fact that I have eyes and when I use such eyes to look at the games Uncharted 2 is the better looking game. Not to say that ME2 isn't better in some regards, as it absolutely is. But overall Uncharted 2 is still the best looking game out at this time. On consoles for sure anyway. I'd like to point out that he was playing the PC version which is obviously better in many categories. Here is an exceprt from the written review "If you're playing on PC and have a powerful rig (I took Shepard for a spin on an Alienware Intel Core 2 Quad 2.00 GHz prcoessor, dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M cards, and 6 GB of memory), it will look even better." Why this even matters is beyond me. Why a game always has to be the best this or the best that is beyond me. All of you guys need to just play your games and enjoy them and stop making everything a pissing contest. It doens't matter that Uncharted 2 looks better or that ME2 got .1 higher. It really doesn't and I'm not going to argue about it. Instead I'm going to leave this thread forget about how childish the gaming community is and enjoy some of the best games of this generation. I suggest everyone else put away the rulers and do the same. Have fun! :)
