Do *YOU think Link NEEDS a voice in the next ZELDA???

NO, I prefer Link stay a silent hero 129 76.33%

YES, I'd prefer if Link had a voice 40 23.67%

Total:169

Absolutely not. I remember how advent children ruined the image or ideas i created for the characters. I think its one of the best and most charming things about the franchise to be honest. They better not do it.

If he doesn't want to be called outdated, yes.

Speaking vs. non-speaking isn't really something that has to do with whether or not one of those is outmoded, or even older than the other

Only NPCs can have voice, not Link.

I'd be fine with voice acting in Zelda on two conditions

1. Link does not talk, ever, and I don't want to hear anything to the contrary

2. The spoken language in the rest of the cast has to be a nonsense language like Shadow of the Colossus or ICO.

I liked the way Okami was done, with characters talking jibbereish. was Shadow of the Colossus like that?

still... { full voice acting (for everyone but link) >> jibberish >>> just text }

if a developer wants to really give a "perfect" (reggie's words, not mine) impression for their game, i think they should include good voice acting in the game (again, for everyone but Link imo)

part of what i love about Tales is that the games usually have great voice acting :)

Actually I think they made up a language. Maybe the same one from Ico.

And yeah, everyone but Link.

His "yaaaah"s are more than enough.

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

Shadow of the Colossus's language was, if I recall correctly, Japanese spoken backwards. It sounds like gibberish to everyone in the world, and since it's spoken backwards instead of being recorded normally and then reversed, it sounds like gibberish to folks who speak Japanese too

I don't know how ICO did it, but it may have been the same - only the boy and Yorda spoke different languages.

I want to take your opinions on whether or not you would like Link to get a voice in the next Zelda game, or if you want him to stay a silent hero, AND WHY you'd prefer it that way.

I remember hearing a good idea one time, a guy proposed having voice acting for everyone in the game except Link, i happen to like that idea. If you've ever played Paper Mario, the game is also made the same way as Zelda, everyone in Paper Mario "speaks" except for Mario (it's actually text), i loved the way that game was handled :)

That way it makes things less odd for fans who are used to the character the way they are, and also so the personality and entity of the character doesn't change from how people preceive him.

*ALTHOUGH*, I DO remember hearing Samus' voice in the E309 trailer and was actually pretty nice, though i'll admit i haven't played much metroid compared to most fans of the series. i AM interested in Other M however :D

Dude I was complaining about the fact he doesnt have a voice and looks stupid on the thread about  Zelda Info leak. Did you stole this topic idea from my comments?

I prefer "inspired by" but sure lol :)

i should tell you, that's how most of my threads are made hehehe :D

Then Im glad that I could inspire you to create a thread from my semi-rant.

In this day unless you're playing a character you created it is well past the point that they should be speaking.  If some people don't want that they should include an option to silence voices, many game already do.  Simply not including them at allt hough, out of date.

But characters speaking - not voiced casts - isn't a linear progression. I mean, the hero of the first Dragon Quest game had several spoken lines. Gordon Freeman continues the silent protagonist mode.

Now if you're saying the casts should be voiced, that's one thing

But saying that Link, specifically, should be voiced rather than silent as a matter of progress is fallacious
