Forums - Gaming - Gamerankings ratings: PS3 cod4 best of them all!!

This comparison really can't be made unless both games are reviewed by the same sources and across the board those sources give one version higher scores than the other. In this case I am sure there are xbox or playstation only review sites/magazines that will create a difference in the average review scores these games receive on the different platforms. And as a note about the same sources giving the game different rating, in those cases it is important that the same reviewer is doing both reviews. In leo-j's example from the gamezone review they are done by different people which could very well explain a difference in rating.

No, the *snore* would imply that I'm not interested anymore.

Shoo.

Liar. I find when people really aren't interested, they are direct about it (such as saying "Okay, whatever. Can we move on?"). Pretending you are falling asleep is usually used when a point is made that can't be countered, and rather than admit that, they lie that the conversation is getting boring.

See what I mean?

What, was I e-sleeping?

You know what, nevermind, don't respond.

"I suppose the biggest problem with your argument to get people to purchase the ps3 version is that it IS graphicly inferior to the Xbox 360 version. LOWER RESOLUTION textures and reduced LOD means its not as good looking on the ps3"

First off, ps3 game runs at native 1080p(no matter what gamespot says). The main reason why it is scored higher on the ps3 is not because of the amount of reviews but becasue of the graphics.

-leoj

Sorry that you're extremely annoyed. However, I fail to see what your assertion that the game runs at 1080P has to do with my assertion that the PS3 version uses lower resolution textures than the 360 version. The 2 things are completely seperate. 1080P just means jaggies will be less noticable and on a 1080P screen it should look crisper. The lower resolution textures mean the gameworld, or certain elements of it at least, will be less well defined and more blurry close up.

The game could run at a resolution of 5000x4000, but that would not magically make the textures more detailed. So as it is, the 360 version is the "better" version just by the virtue of being slightly more detailed graphically.

For what it's worth, when talking about 1080p, 720p, etc then Quaz51 over at Beyond3D (the guy who revealed the Halo 3 resolution) believes that both versions run at an actual resolution of 1024x600p with 2xAA and then scaled up to 1080p if the TV supports it.

@rotnm

Have you not read my other post? THE REASON why the ps3 version is rated higher is because of the graphics, ps3 scored a 9.7 from gamezone, and 360 a 9.5 in graphics , just scroll up and be happy.

Is that not proof? Or are you still stuck that its not possible a ps3 game can look better than a 360 game? I dont know where you got that the 360 version had better textures.

leo-j,

How is that proof? It was reviewed by 2 totally different reviewers who will have different criteria for scoring games. That would be like me saying it's proof the 360 version is better because it has more 10/10 scores.

So please remember, the 360 version is clearly better because it has more 10/10 scores. You can't argue with that.

Leo, one person who says one version is better than the other is not proof, it is an opinion. Besides, your example isn't a good one, considering the reviews are written by different people.

Edit: I see someone already pointed this out before me

Did someone mention that the 360 version has 25 reviews - while the PS3 version has 14 reviews? I'm guessing this will be enough to explain any statistical differences between the versions.

 Yep I did.

Ahem! however no-one seems to be listening to us, and are instead arguing over whether 1080p should score a game higher, or which control scheme of the four is best [in all reality the 360 and PS3 scheme are exactly the same]

Looks llike 10 reviews each with 7 common sources between PS3 and 360. Of those seven only one has a different score - Gamezone - PS3 = 96 and 360 = 95.

the two Gamezone reviews are as follows:

360

Gameplay: 9.5
A completely intense thrill-ride from start to finish, Call of Duty 4 grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go.

Graphics: 9.5
Extremely realistic character models that move realistically with a dynamically changing environment and tons of excellent details. The framerate stays butter-smooth throughout.

Sound: 9.5
A sweeping orchestral score as we all now Harry Gregson-Williams is capable of pumping out, complete with some great voice work and incredible battlefield sound effects.

Difficulty: Medium

Concept: 9.5
Taking a shooter franchise in a new direction can be a gamble, but Infinity Ward has shown that it can pay off in spades. The story elements are new to the series, but quite compelling nonetheless.

Multiplayer: 9.5
Some of the most robust features ever in a multiplayer shooter, Call of Duty 4 boasts tons of game modes both old and new, as well as some excellent class creation elements and RPG-style character development.

Overall: 9.5
If you are at all a fan of shooters, then pick up Call of Duty 4 now.

PS3

Gameplay: 9.6
With each level, with each reveal of the plot, you begin to see a game that was finely crafted and tells an involving, evolving story. The gameplay mechanics are familiar and that is a good thing because there is so much going on in this game that fumbling with the controls would ruin it.

Graphics: 9.7
The nuances are phenomenal and the game consistently runs at a smooth framerate. The animations are also first rate.

Sound: 9.5
Infinity Ward knows how integral sound is to the gaming experience. It has proved that with previous iterations of this title. CoD4 is no exception. The sound is vital to the experience and really pulls you into the game and story.

Difficulty: Medium/Hard

Concept: 9.5
Infinity Ward strayed from the safe confines of the franchise’s established WW II element and ventured into new territory. The results are nothing short of superb.

Multiplayer: 9.3
The modes may be familiar but new life has been injected with the create-a-class system as well as the in-game bonuses and perk system.

Overall: 9.6
CoD4 is the best in a long and storied franchise. This is next-gen gaming in every sense of the phrase. This is an excellent game.

To me it seems that the 1 pt difference is purely reviewer based ie. read the graphics sections and try to see why one reviewer scored it 9.7 and the other 95 ...

If the same reviewer had done both versions I might believe there was a difference in the two platforms but ... with six sites giving the versions identical scores and Gamezone using two different reviewers (remember a review is just that persons opinion based on his experience and preferences) I doubt there is any substantial differences.

BTW - in the Scoring box at gamezone they have a "Average Web Rating" PS3 has a 9.5 and 360 version has a 9.7 ....

About the 720p thing, I think that it might be something with the TV. I set my PS3's resolutions to only 480p (lowest required for HDMI, always selected), but I turned off 720p and 1080i.

With 1080p the only HD resolution set on my PS3, COD4 loaded up and the TV said it's running in 1080p. I'd imagine that if it were a 720p game, the PS3 would be displaying it in 480p, am I wrong?

Are you being sarcastic? You wont win. You yourself have not any proof to say the 360 version runs better, and has better textures. I can give you more than 2 links that state the ps3 version is the superior version. The ps3 version is still rated higher than the 360 version you cant argue with that.
