Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft: Natal Is 'A Huge Investment' and 'Fraught with Risk'.

Depends on how much they put into the product marketing in it really as to whether its a huge risk. If they put all the hype machine behind it and they fail then yes its a big risk.

@Hus - I gather English is probably your second language so don't think I'm being an ass saying this, but in your sig you have some errors. Instead of "out sale" it should be outsell fella, in the case of software it should be "PS3 software will outsell 360 software". I'm sure your sig is far better constructed grammatically than I could do it in Polish though!

Still dont get why they did not save it for the next xbox.

Unless its to risky and they are willing to fail on 360 and star fresh on the next xbox, while not willing to take the risk of spending billions on launching new xbox and risking it all on "natal" controls.

Smart of them.

You ride the hot hand, and the hot hand is motion controls. That and they are not yet ready for the next generation, nor are the developers. We got years to go before we see new consoles.

Iam a bit tired and sleepy and not sure what you mean.

But 3rd parties have shown on through the wii they will never be ready for motion controls.  Personally i dont see franchises like Halo Modern Warfare GTA or Gran Turismo working with motion controls.

It is in my belief both sony and microsoft believe the success of nintendo is the 'innovative' motion controls, thus natal and sonys motion controls were born. They are just trying to capitalize and capture some of nintendos thunder with these new perphirals. I agree with you that franchises such as halo or modern warfare, etc, working that well with these motion controls.

Of course its a risk. Xbox and 360 brand is tied to hardcore gamers right now, and online action. Introducing Natal is a double risk, as it could alienate elements of the current install base and of course it could fail to attract the intended new fanbase.

But with great risk there is the chance for great rewards, or something like that!

Anyway, another 'Captain Obvious' article pointing out something obvious to anyone with a modicum of business knowledge.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Sorry, but I didn't meant to troll.

Last time I read about Natal, someone told that Natal was able to do things eye toy can't dream of because it had this dedicated chip.
If you remove the chip, what's the real difference?

And sorry for the up about this, I just seen I had been reported, and I had to reply.

Well, they lied to you.  The only difference now and when the chip was on Natal, is where the functionality is computed.  Nothing changed functionally for Natal.  It still detects the same things, but there is now a hit on the 360 CPU to get that functionality.
