Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Pre-ordered Mass Effect 2...never played ME1...am I screwed?

If you are playing on 360, I recommend a quick rental of ME1. The story and details and background/side quests are quite interesting and will help you get more into ME2 most likely.

If you are playing on PC, ME1 was available direct from EA store as a digital DL for 10$ last I saw. I actually bought it there myself recently for said price, in anticipation of ME2. I was not dissapointed, the game is well worth the 10$ and if you did not like ME1 combat as much - on the PC you can bring up a "cheats console" and basically just focus on story without worrying about combat if you desire. ( maybe on 360 as well, not sure tbh)

I dunno. I also played only 1 hour of Mass Effect, got bored and left it. But everyone talks about it so much so I mite give it a second chance.

Is there a high learning curve for this game? And the combats, are they turn based combined with real time, like in Dragon Age?

No, it's all real time combat.

No...I was confused as fuck. All these menus that enable stuff. Story was badass, but shooting was confusing.

I was a newb to rpg shooters back then thought...bordernalds, fallout 3 later...Im ready to tackle this again.

No, you can actually make a better character than importing your monkey person from 1. Also, you didn't kill any characters so you have them this game. If you want to know, you were spaceman guy, killed aliens, citidel attacked, saved citidel, and some characters die along the way.
