Forums - Sony Discussion - Gran Turismo 5 is already profitable?!!!

So does this mean it's no longer called a demo and instead IS a game of itself?

I mean it'd have to be the first demo that ever made the full game profitable LOL

That's a given, PD does not even pay for car licenses.

That would be true if EVERY copy of the game was sold for $40 and EVERY CENT of this money went to the devs. Both assumptions are veeeeeeery wrong.

about a million were sold on PSN.

Lets say 500k at $40 is 20 million.

500k at $20 = 10 million.

Now we dont know the exact breakdown but educated guess puts it somewhere between $20/40 million all directly into Sonys pocket, just from PSN sales.

So 3.5 million retail to make up the rest of GT5 dev cost.

Yeah, I doubt very much that it's actually profitable already. I'd like to see a statement from Sony before I believe some blogger without any linked references.

That being said, it is impressive how GT manages to generate so much revenue before the full release, and I'm sure it takes the edge off those development costs.

no it hasn't made a profit, but it has gone a hell of a long ways toward getting there. The 60 million number wouldn't even include marketing, which is no doubt gonna be huge. I don't know if they include the costs of prologue seperately or more or less include it in the costs. Prologue itself had a few costs too i'm sure.
