Forums - General Discussion - Any VGCers want to donate money to Haiti without spending money?

Hi everyone,

I posted about this program in the OT thread for beta a few weeks back. Had a good response for the really early beta, but I thought that, given the series of events (the program has been in production well before the Haiti earthquake), that it was time to push this out early to ensure that people were helped before it was too late.

If you didn't know, I am working on building an application for Facebook. Its a fundraising program for charities that allows people to generate money for causes without the actual need of spending money. The reason for this is that I know that not everyone has the ability to give money to causes - either by need (no extra money to do it) or by choice (no credit cards, or ability to find charities to give to).

The simple rundown of the program is this:

There are companies out there that are willing to pay money to marketers when people sign up for something, download a facebook app, ect. Many websites promote this kind of marketing, called affiliate marketing, to earn themselves money. However, this program is quite the opposite - instead of keeping the money, we're allowing users to designate the money to go towards whatever charity they want to.,

However, the system isn't quite at 100%. We haven't quite added charities at the moment. However, the rest of the system works, and we're at the point that users can generate revenue, and track their earnings in the 'Your Profile' tab.

If you would like to use this program to generate some money for the Red Cross' Haiti fund, please check the site out:

In order to use it, you'll need to be a Facebook user. We're going to add support for those that aren't on Facebook.

If there are any questions, please let me know. I would also advise anyone interested in using the program to stick with the low-point offers. Most of them are very, very simple such as registering for a survey website, or adding another application on Facebook. I've been on the program off and on today, using it to raise money for Haiti personally. The average offer earns about 50 points (about $0.40) and takes about 5 minutes to do.

If we had 1,000 VGC-ers do this, we could raise hundreds if not thousands of dollars for Haiti. All without needing a credit card, or sending anyone any money.

If anyone has questions, please let me know via this thread or PM.

Done and done.

Awesome. Thanks

I should also mention:

If you complete an offer and want to make sure it gets counted for the charity program, click the 'View Offer Status' button on the 'Earn' page.

For some reason I'm not getting any of the points for the toolbars. :-/

It may take time to activate. I know that on my end, the administrator panel is showing that you (or someone) downloaded a toolbar....So even if it hasn't credited you yet, its showing up.

Click the 'view offer status' on the 'earn' page to double check what the program is saying on its end.

Hmm, that may be me. I'll try to fix it.

Right, I clicked on 'view offer status' and logged in. It says I've earned 188 points. It should be done now.

Done! Looks like I earned 72 points!

I added the application. I guess I will try to do some of the surveys... It's pretty much like CR Bucks on Crunchyroll.com (gets you a "free" Anime membership). Sometimes you think you're done, but they give you so many special offers and shit that it's just not worth it most of the time. And even when you're done with the special offers, you don't even get the CR bucks. Wth?

Hopefully it works this time around...

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
