Forums - PC - Windows 7 Freezes a "Starting Windows" Screen...but not always

Hey I just build my brand new computer and I ran into a problem. Every so often when I restart the computer hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen. I restart again and again until it works. Windows cannot find an error or problem, everything is updated and I never overclock. Also once it's past the startup screen everything works fine. Any suggestions?

Could be a RAM problem.

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

...nothing can come from nothing...

Usuallly after the Starting Windows dynamic logo appaears, Windows loads driver files.  Freezing on that screen typically indicates a driver issue.  Since it is intermittant, I'd say live with it, and update the drivers as new ones become available.  There could also be file system errors that you have introduced by forced restart.  You should run a chkdsk at next restart and let it fix the errors.  If all else fails reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS.

download memtest86, burn it to a CD, and check your RAM for errors
