Forums - Sales Discussion - NPD Gamasutra article (interesting facts on Sony)

I think that the PSP is going to be a big drag on earnings. It's looking like the PSP could be 40-50% off of expectations, which is a huge miss.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

They could be selling more units that lose money (PS3) and fewer units that make profits (PS2,PSP). What a mess.

sony profited same quarter last year without MW2, AC2, and U2... also with a ps3 that cost more to make... I dont think they are all too worried here. I actually think they'll be a little relieved they're getting on the right track... stop making ant hills into mountaiuns

A company that was already massively in the red has reduced it's revenue by over a billion dollars in the US market, and you're asking how that could be an issue?

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Good thing revenue has no effect on that red ink....

Revenue has nothing to do with profit/losses...?

They were also selling a $399 PS3 and 40-50% more PS2 and PSP.

Well revenue could be an issue if the revenue lost is because of less sales of profitable hardware (PS2 and PSP) which is partially offset by more revenue from hardware selling at a loss (PS3).

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Just because revenue is lower doesnt mean the costs are the same. One thing that lowers cost automatically is the same thing that lowers revenue... not making as many ps2's

So you think their costs in the US declined by $1.3 billion?
