Forums - Gaming Discussion - Are you happy with the direction of the videogame industry

There's been a curious shift in thinking. At the start of this generation, the Wii fans would say that the Wii had saved the market. Publishers would co-opt all these new users and the future would be bright. HD fans would assert that these new users weren't reliable, and they would flee the market as quickly as they rushed to it, leading to a great big crash.

Well, it looks like the 3rd party publishers agreed with the HD fans, because through intentional neglect or through incompetence, they have largely failed to co-opt the new users (it should be noted that the new users are sticking around, they just mostly restrict themselves to Nintendo's software). Now we see HD fans feeling pretty comfortable in how things are going while Wii fans predict that over-investment in HD games will bring about at least a market re-adjustment in the gaming industry.

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing
