Hardly the problem... Blame two things. The extended userbase, and test games. The first is overwhelmingly huge and doesn't buy anything thats good, the second will not be bought by the core userbase - creating a vicious circle of good stuff not bought (in sufficent amounts) and test stuff not returning 'positive" results.

Agree 50%. Test games absolutely. but what is business 101? The Customer is always right. One of the problems I have with many of these devs is them blaming me for not buying the shit they say I should. The tail doesn't wag the dog.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
"Everything on-rails sucks"
I normally agree with what Malstrom says when he's not intoxicated and strongly disagree when he's ranting, but if he said that about on-rails, I agree even if he was under LSD or crack.
Edit: obviously for "on-rails" I mean something worse than just a linear main quest, if we talk about RPG's or action-adventures, "on-rails" is when the thing is so tight that you feel it.
--OkeyDokey-- said: So when do we stop blaming third parties and start blaming Nintendo for making a console that no one wants to develop for? |
I dont think thats the case, many developers out there want to make and meke games for the WII the thing is the Big publishers with the big IP and big franchises in gaming dont want to have their creations lose relevancy by making them exclusive to the WII, because they know if they neglect the PC/360/PS3 by giving them spinoffs a new developer/publisher combo will take the market from them. They know that the main entries of the Titles are held to the most rigorous standars and if they put it on the nobody will accept that the best looking games from before be made for the WII and Dont compare the games that are the standard to follow on the industry since ever with the best games out there.
I know it sucks, but I dont think people got the WII a Nintendo Console to get heavy 3rd party support, and the LARGE MAJORITY of WII owners are quite happy with the games they get and the WII in general, but theres a small minority that will complain about not getting the main resident evil/final fantasy/GTA etc when nintendo never got those games since over 10 years, and they have this feeling of entitlement because the is the best selling console and neglect the great efforts that are made of core games that are very good because they are to busy complaining on the forums about the games they dont get.
Not all the forums Nintendo fans are like that but theres is a large and vocal group that is acting in this pathetic way. I really dislike how all the topics and threads that are made lately are devolving into cesspool of complaints about how 3rd party X should Make game X on the WII. WII gamers your console has Great games enjoy them, stop ignoring the good games that you get and forget about imaginary games that you dont get.
Please.

"A good product is marketed like this: "Hey, look at all of these cool bells and whistles that you'll get if you buy [product]! [Product] is awesome!"
Most of the "test games" for the Wii from third parties have been marketed to core Wii gamers like this: "Buy [product] if you want to see more of [product category]. And we swear that the next [product] will be better than this half-hearted effort! All we need are sales of this one!"
Do you see what's wrong with this picture? Third parties are marketing their core-market "test games" to nobody. The only incentive that they present for buying one of these "test games" is to see other games on the core market. They think that consumers (core-market consumers in particular, but also consumers in general) are stupid enough to throw their money away on a product that has no discernable benefit to them except for a vague promise of something better in the future that you'll have to pay even more money for.
Basically, they're approaching the whole concept wrong. If they had released a game that consumers wanted for its own benefits, they would have succeeded. But this "test game" garbage is nothing more than negative marketing, and time and again the sales numbers have shown that it doesn't work because consumers are too smart to fall for it. And then, each and every time, the developers or publishers of the "test game" wring their hands and state, "Look! There's no market for core games on the Wii!"
In reality, they're just self-fulfilling their own dire prophecies."
Some more quotes:
"The “Game Industry” wants Nintendo to abandon its disruptive ways and return to the traditional core ways. While third parties say a Wii HD allows them to easily port over their game, this is also a lie. The “Game Industry” froze the Gamecube even though it had the same install base as the Xbox. Gamecube was deliberately left out.
And as this generation began, the “Game Industry” declared either further niche of Nintendo or its outright destruction as a console company. All analysts “agreed” that Nintendo would be last place. It is clear that the “Game Industry” wants Nintendo to be a game company, but not a console company. They want Nintendo to make Mario and Zelda and port it to all the systems."
Nintendo was increasingly isolated. Hilariously, the increase of Nintendo’s isolation was blamed on Nintendo. Many people believed this. No matter how far Nintendo would go with making development easier, with reaching out to third parties, with even allowing third parties to make games using their IPs, the console was consistently frozen. Remember that the Dreamcast, also, was easy to develop for. None of that mattered."
Nintendo will never win with anyone but themselves.

BladeOfGod said: they are just jealous cuz they're not getting Batman AA, RE5, DMC4, Bioshock, MW2 ( maybe in 2014 ), AC 2, Bayonetta and lots of other awesome 3rd party games |
Luckilly I also own a 360 to take care of those games. I couldn't really care less about most of those games you listed though. RE5 I own but it's highly overrated. MW2 is a lot of fun I will admit.
It takes two to tango, so any bitterness that may or not be present is a direct result of events in this generation so far.
Had third parties not done things to cause bitterness, then it wouldn't exist.

Seriously, WHAT IS IT with you PS3 fans on this site? You guys have to be the most annoying twits around, bar none. I thought that Xbox360 fans were pretty terrible when it came to Wii trolling, but being here on VGChartz is starting to change my mind on that. |
Ha, try going to gamepro, trust me this place will look far better by comparison. I finally broke free of that site after like 5 years but man they had the worst Sony fanboys of all time (well all fanboys really) but especially the Sony ones. They make the hardcore Sony fans here look tame.
Ari_Gold said: you barely noticed their bitterness? lol. Did you not see them looking forward to the conduit, and shitting all over modern warfare 2, or any other shooter on the HD consoles, or downplaying AAA games like RE 5, while hyping average to best exclusive niche games like madworld, da blob, silent hill, final fantasy crystal bearers, cold mountain, house of the dead, no more heroes. Don't forget their elitist attitude that playing games with a "pad" is last gen and they couldn't go back...... Its real funny actually. I'm playing games while they brag about sales. They're hungry for third party support, they are just too bitter to admit it. |
Way to lump all Nintendo fans in one group..
How bitter would PS3 and 360 owners be if third parties spent years launching "test games" to see if they were worthy of getting more high-profile, high-quality games?
How bitter would they be if those same third parties ignored the fact that several high-quality PS3 and 360 games sold well, and decided to launch their following games on the Wii, completely forgetting their previous successes on the PS3 and 360?
How bitter would they be if 3rd parties and the industry in general used niche games and spin-offs as "proof" that PS3 and 360 owners don't deserve getting better games?
