I'm thinking IGN is doing these wii articles on purpose even if they don't think that way to saty popular

I quess it sold to much according to IGN.

for the quality of the game...yeah, it also sold too much according to me

Wow and I thought I was the only one that escaped the hypnosis. I applaud you for speaking the truth and perhaps you will get bashed alot and me for agreeing with you. The gamers who love Mario have been somehow under the spell that just about anything with his name is the second coming. Now there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Mario franchise, especially the 2D platforming games. Yes Mario is fun, there is no denying that, but I hate to admit after Super Mario Bros. 3, it has begun to lose its magic to me and perhaps a few others. Yes I had the privelage to play Splosion man, and it has got to be one of the funnest times on a platformer I've had. This discussion reminds me of an argument I had many years back with my brother when comparing Super Mario World to an unknown Sega gem called Kid Chameleon. Funny enough when he finally played it he said hats off to the game that can finally dethrone Mario. The sad reality is much different and it doesn't only apply to Mario but several other games. COD series is an example, along with Zelda and Final Fantasy, among others. All are great series that have earned their rightful place in the pantheon of great games, but people adamantly refuse that there are in fact better games out there that may not have such a household name. I just wish people would give lots of other games a try and stop being close minded. Hell Vagrant Story pretty much blew every Final Fantasy game out the water for me (pretty much matched and surpassed VI). I just hope people give so many other games a chance one day and don't get blinded by the extreme bias I am starting to notice in my short time here.

you my good sir, win the thread =D

Who didn't see this coming after Nintendo and specifically this game destroyed the competition in the NPD.

They're a little late actually, I expected this last night.

That he may have gone about it in a more unprofessional way, there is no question about that. But you seem to disregard some points that may have certain validity to them. Just because there is a good possibility that your beloved Mario MAY be a Slightly inferior platformer doesn't mean that it's about "OMG IT SELLS TO MUCH SO IT HAS TO GET HATE!" Hell I can accept that there may be games out there or at least will be, that surpass Uncharted 2 in that genre. True at the end of the day it's about personal taste but that doesn't mean that you should disregard other great games just because the mustached hero is the main character. It is that mindset which allows all of us to experience many gems. Hell if it wasn't for me giving other games a chance and keeping an open mind, I would have never ended up playing Legend of Legaia (loved it), or Einhander (a shmup made by Squaresoft? no way!). Lets try to remain civil with eachother and give other games a shot. That doesn't mean Mario will get jealous or stop making games because you try other games. Lets all keep the one thing we have in common in order to connect in a positive way: gaming. Have a good evening (or day if your in EU).

NSMBWii was the only Wii title under the Christmas tree this year at my house. I picked it up for my youngest son and also partially to get my wife to play some games with the kids. She would play Super Mario Bros on the NES. Well failed experiment since Christmas NSMBWii has been played about a total of 2 hours and that was in one sitting with 4 of us. Since then nothing but dust gathering. Just seemed to be the same old Mario platformer that I abandoned years ago and my kids just dont find it interesting. As for my wife she gave it about 30 minutes.

I have to agree that NSMBWii is the most overrated game of the year. Nostalgia sold it and for most I see it just gathering dust.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

That quote tree was becoming a war crime.

No, Kasz was the one originally making a point here, and if you wan to argue with him you have ot address his point. Professionalism in the relaying of one's opinion does affect perceived validity for many people, myself included. The man isn't writing an editiorial. He's having a breakdown. I'm embarrassed for him, because the language and vindictiveness on display here is not something that a grown man should be showing in public about anything, least of all video games, and in that case least of all because a game is selling better than he wants it to.

He's complaining that people like New Super Mario Bros. Wii too much. And he's doing it in a completely unrelatable way.

hes saying its selling TOO MUCH FOR ITS QUALITY AND WORK INPUT....he relating the game to another game that in his opinion should be regarded as a higher platformer.....i know his point, hes saying that daemon had no professionalism, he was expressing himself as writer, even if he has no professionalism, he still makes a valid point which is professional enough for me

You agreeing with him does not mean he's writing professionally. That's not how professionalism works.

Great thread, would read again.

It actually gave me the first impression that it was an advertisement or something for that other platformer.

It's like how no name professors will do a public lecture but in the article talking about the lecture they reference some relating pop culture material then slap their name in the middle and create some kind of conflict. Then move on to what the lecture is actually about, usually it shares little context to the conflict that the professor or author was generating.

you are once again missing the point, i could care less if he was professional, he still makes good points....you know what fine, HIS ARTICLE WAS NOT PROFESSIONAL...are you happy? does that make you happy? that the ign writer was not professional enough for you....or does it make you sad that he actually makes a good point which happens to be that a mario game is not all that?

I guess through that lens maybe IGN was trying to co-opt the 10 million seller with a relatively commercially unsuccessful platformer.

Just a guess, though I can't see why they would want to do that, either way the article really didn't have much to do about Mario outside of the author trying to find a round about way of saying Mario is crap.

Part of the reason it's not professional is because he actually doesn't make any good points. It's not very good and it's not very professional.
