Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Third Party Devs have made up their minds about the Wii.

But the games would excite you if they came for the Wii right?:D

OK, here's what I think is gonna happen from some major third-party publishers:

CAPCOM: They said they were scaling back. They didn't say they were dropping Wii support. They've still got TvC, MH3. And, from the looks of it, both are going to be advertised.

KONAMI: Well, they DID give us some high quality "Rebirths" via WiiWare, and they DID give a solid SILENT HILL SHATTERED MEMORIES (which seems to be doing decent if unspectacular sales). I don't see these guys going away.

SQUARE-ENIX: Hard to say. Their development support has been quite erratic over the years. They did release CRYSTAL BEARERS this year, but that title split audiences. They're still onboard for DQX, though, so I don't see them going away.

SEGA: They may have said no more M-rated games, but they're not dropping Wii either. They're just "scaling back".

E-A: Iffy, because I don't know about them.

NAMCO: They've done Tales of Graces for Wii. What else will happen from them remains to be seen.

So while I DO see some scaling back in terms of Wii development from third-parties, I don't see it going away altogether; there's quite a bit of games coming this year from 3rd-parties (granted, they were released about over a year ago, but that's better than nothing.)

Great post.

3rd parties are not cutting their Wii game development, they are consolidating it.  Spending the same, or nearly the same, amount of money total (more PER project), on far fewer projects.  That's a good thing, not bad.  Having "1/3rd to 1/4th" the dev cost put the typical Wii game below just about any serious PS2 game ever made, and it shows.

Oh, and my point about break out hits being the vast bulk of Wii sales is true. Of the 1500 or so Wii games, and the total 436.84 million Wii software sales, 302.72 million belong to the roughly 50 million sellers.

Sorry, I missed that post.

2 things:

1) - How many of those are 3rd party? Because Nintendo's software must count for a lot of that.

2) - Compare that to the HD consoles and if it's ridiculously out of proportion, I'll admit that I was wrong and you win the argument.

I would bet the new Zelda is the most expensive, but if you're talking shipped games, and software costs only, then I'd say SMG, yeah.  SMG had the advantage of pre-existing engine code (like the rendering library, etc., because the GPU has hardly changed since the GC), and perhaps even a few assets, from SMS as well.

I suppose it's possible that the first Wii Zelda may have cost more than SMG as well, if you don't excuse away the dev costs as being for the "GC version" which was basically the same game...

No.

The only game I would like on wii from them is a true Resident evil and capcom has made very clear that we won't have it.

FF13, MGS4, GTA4..all boring crapfest. I can live without them.

Yep, around $20Mill

A game I'm developing with some friends:

www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I think pretty much everyone can live without them. I doubt the day I start to hate FFXIII(which hopefully never will happen!) I get struck by lightning and god burns my dick off

Does anybody know if Activision made money in the last 2 years with their Call of Duty/Guitar Hero/shovelware philosophy? I thought they were still losing money, and would have been bleeding it much faster if it wasn't for Blizzard's eternal WarCraft profits.

1 billion profit is nice, but how fast will they blow it on Violin Hero, Mandolin Hero, and Guitar Hero: Some Band You Don't Care About?

Their last financial statement was pre-MW2, I believe, but yeah... slim profits considering the WoW cash cow, so they must be burning it somewhere (like GH).

I would wager they'll look downright fantastic this coming quarter.
