Immortal said: I think you mean 1k pre-orders, if we're extrapolating to Japan sales as whole, since I doubt anyone cares about COMG specifically. Well, actually, more like any game that finishes with 500 points, we expect to open to around 500k, so not total preorders, exactly. Though, not even that, really. 1 point, just before release, should be on the same scale of mangnitude as 1k sales. So, with 500 points, a game shouldn't open to less than 50k or more than 5m. Maybe. Of course, Nintenod/casual games have better sales per point and hardcore worse. ..wow, is this a worthless system. Lord knows why we follow it so religiously, xD. |
I swear someone told me when I first started following this that COMG was just one shop in Japan, so 1 point = 1 preorder.
I mean yes, we can try to extrapolate how well something will do in the whole of Japan based on these numbers, but there's loads of factors at play. Case in point: COMG seems very Sony-centric, but Animal Crossing is doing extremely well, so I expect it to do better in the rest of Japan than a normal 700-800 point game on COMG would do.

No, we dont think that...

What do we think, then?

I dont think we think the same way.
Im not sure, but i dont think they track only 1 store, and 1 point isnt 1 pre-order or 1k pre-order. They only give us an estimate of how the game will sell, you can't fully trust in COMG. Some games get 400 points and do 200k FW, some get 200 points and do 200k FW, and some even didnt appear in the chart and still do 30k FW.

Just so you understand where I'm coming from, this is what my whole understanding of COMG has been based on:
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=4702746
"Each COMG point represents something like one preorder at a certain store. That's it."
I know it's really impossible to tell, but since that's when I started following the thread, it's what I've been believing. 1 = 1.
And that would still allow for disparities. If COMG is just one store (or a chain of a few stores), then they're not representative of the whole of Japan. They just give us an idea.

Oh no, lol. I was just talking about this specific chart. Even if it's up in the air what 1 point means on here :P

I know that much. I've been stalking this thread since like mid-2010, I think. I'm just saying that this is a really horrible method. It's like trying to figure out an election's result by polling 10 people, :P. Guess it's our only indication for the JP market since the Japan Preview died out, though.

Yeah, that's true. I mean, it may be inaccurate and hard work, but I find it enjoyable to follow, as I'm sure most of this thread does :)
