Well apparently I'm in the minority. I just figured the PS3 had a real shot at a stellar last full year in Japan and it would be all thanks to the holiday release schedule for the Japanese.

I have a feeling the Wii U won't dominate the PS3 and the PS3 will have a very strong year.

Obviously, I don't agree that the PS3 is going to beat the 3DS in Japan (if only because Handhelds > Consoles over there), but you're not wrong that PS3 is gonna get a massive boost this holiday season.  And to the people who were saying to you "Sequels don't sell consoles", all I have to say is "wat".

Just a couple of examples:

Halo Reach (3rd Halo game on the 360): http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/40440/Global/

+67% boost for the first week, +28% the following week, held the sales for the third week.

Or to use an example a little closer to this chart and less interrupted by FIFA:

Mario party 9 in Japan (second Mario Party game on the Wii): http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/41028/Japan/

+34% boost for the first week, +64% the following week, then it dropped.

Anyway, moral of the story, sequels do boost hardware, at the very least in the short-term.

1. We are talking for Japan. I don't take the first example

2. MP9 didn't boost the Wii. The golden Week DID boost the Wii and all the systems that week.

2. If one system is selling 1k per week and the next week sells 2k, this is 100% boost, so I don't like to use this method as an exemple.

The PS3 is selling 10-15k per week. If there's not a price cut maybe the system will be in the 20-30k range when the big games arrive (I don't include Christmas here). Not a huge boost, that's what we were talking about.

Pokemon? Monster Hunter? Huge games will boost systems, sequels or not. Most people don't actually care a lot if the game they're buying is number 6 or 1 in a given franchise.

Are you comparing Pokemon and Monster Hunter (+4 million) with RE and ToX (less than 1 million)? Come on!

P.D: Even this, Pokemon Black /White 2 didn't boost NDS neither 3DS.

That Gundam game should have been a Vita game.

It doesn't matter how much they end up selling, since we're talking first week here. Resident Evil 6 will reach similar heights as Monster Hunter 2 did on PSP (first few weeks...).  PSP got a massive boost first week.

Mario then...

Pokemon gave 3DS an 18% boost, and DS a 60%+ boost (I know...)

a boost of that week doesn't mean PS3 will have a massive holiday season in Japan. The whole base of the original argument is that PS3 will domainate holiday season over 3DS with these games. That is certainly not true.

As I mentioned earlier, even on the week of RE6 and ToX2 release, it's likely PS3 won't even outsell 3DS. It would be so far from dominating.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Well, I am responding to the "sequels don't sell consoles" argument. I agree that there's no way PS3 will outsell 3DS this holiday in Japan. However, RE6 and ToX2 will boost the PS3

Any big game release would boost the system on the week of release. I don't think people were saying it won't boose the PS3 at all. They were saying sequel usually doesn't make much difference in the big picture as the other person thought they would.
