9 is the new low? That could equate to anything when you refer to the whole of Japan lol.

I've just realised, this is a new game rather than a remake, isn't it?  Wondered why it was shitting on the pre-orders of the other games in the series.

It's a new game yes. Finally a true sequel in the series that people have been waiting years for. Building up to this they rereleased 1-4. Summon Night is huge in Japan, although not very known outside.

Off note, the Amazon ranking screenshotters have disappeared since The Last of Us started camping #1.

Why is it not doing so good though eh? Have you heard anything other then Amazon on how its been doing?

How huge? lol Like 200K lifetime? It's some big numbers (in line with previous mainline games), but not "huge".

Shining Arc was big at COMG chart before release, but first week sales were "meh".

"Dragon Quest will leave the chart with the same amount of points it entered it, lol."

Looks like it, maybe +1 or so. But it's highest charted new Wii U game on Amazon Japan since console release -- now at #7. 42,000 yen hardware bundle also rising and Wii U Premium Edition first time in months returned to top 30. That's not bad news for the system.

Luigi's Mansion selling ot in some stores again (2nd week info)

Also, retailers slashed Metal Gear Rising price (first shipment still unsold...)

Lol, 9 points. Well, at least that allows us to see a WiiU and a Vita game in the chart.

Also, nice to see that it's not all PSP games now.

Wow, is Valhalla knights a big series? Wouldn't have expected to see it this far out from release.

Yeah I'm not going off COMG, never have. Summon Night is a popular series in Japan and it's a very anticipated sequel after many years on hiatus. A lot of people didn't even expect a 5th game after Flight-Plan shut down due to poor sales on DS. Now Bandai Namco is putting a lot of resources behind the new game, even getting ufotable to do the animation. There's already TV advertisements and promotions from the beginning of this month.

Also yeah, Metal Gear Rising was just the usual Platinum Games affair... over-the-top yet very mediocre games. It only sold as much as it did because of the Metal Gear name. But just because a retailer price drops a month after release doesn't mean prices are being "slashed". That's a normal affair.

I understand it, but I can't see its selling more than 200K or so. We'll see.

[PS1] Summon Night 2 (Banpresto) - 76,328 / 139,755
[PS1] Summon Night (Banpresto) - 18,426 / 58,743
[PS1] Summon Night [PSOne Books] (Banpresto) - 3,430 / 49,988

[PS2] Summon Night 3 (Banpresto) - 152,285 / 230,299
[PS2] Summon Night 4 (Banpresto) - 116,761 / 182,669

"poor sales on DS"

DS got 2 remakes (of 1 and 2) and 2 spin-offs (action RPG and turn based RPG). They both sold like 50K. And remakes @

[NDS] Summon Night (Banpresto) - 43,842 / 69,076
[NDS] Summon Night 2 (Banpresto) - 28,188 / 51,568

PSP got remakes of 3 and 4 (originally more popular games that 1 and 2)

Summon Night 3 debuted on PSP with 50K last october and quickly dropped, Summon Night 3 started with 40K.

Not a big difference between DS and PSP here.

Where are you getting your numbers from? And you're giving an incomplete list.

Anyway I explained the circumstances around the game, and now we have a brand new game on a portable console with an extremely large install base. We all know how well portables do in Japan. We've seen how past numbers are meaningless for some Nintendo franchises lately too.

Also, while the PSP rereleases were pretty straight affairs of porting from the previous games, the DS games had to go through extensive reprogramming for the new hardware. They were basically new games. And then they also made full new games with their non numbered titles, and those did poorly as well. For new games. You're making a bad comparison here.

I was pretty sure the last of us would be a safe bet.... and considering ist's been above Tomodatchi on amazon ever since preorder was opened and tomodatchi did way more than 9points on comg in the last few days, it should have been....

But i guess comg isn't amazon... does anyone know how big amazon in japan is (compared to comg)?

Happy for Valhalla Knights though. I wasn't expecting to see it anytime soon, if at all.
