Good luck! Just remember to try to build someplace with hardwood/tiled floors, since carpets can teem with static electricity. If you have any questions while building, feel free to post 'em.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Well that was a nice and easy build and windows install. I only had one hiccup, i forgot to plug in the power led, but other than that it was extremely smooth, much better than my first build. And I must say so far I really like windows 7 and I am glad I upgraded to it

Very nice thread here Garcian Smith!
This thread is giving off some great PC love especially with ameratsu's Aquaria avatar (love that game and glad to see other spreading the word!)

The only thing I didn't see specifically mentioned were MODS which are one of PC gaming's biggest strengths imo. Check this thread for some new ones - http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=96390
Also moddb.com is a great site that lets you track your favorite mods for updates and downloads.

Finally I started a modding social club, where we play old and new online mods that don't always have large user bases.
Feel free to join and have fun  :)

Yeah, mobo/case plugs are a bitch, and it's a crime that there hasn't been a standard configuration developed for them yet. Plugging in those tiny power/reset/LED plugs in the right configuration caused the most problems for me too.

So

So I can ask for advice on a build in this topic?

Me and the wife decided we'd build a desktop after we sold our condo.... and we're way ahead of schedule.

What're you planning on doing with it, just for email/web/office/etc. or for gaming, or video editing or something as well?

Also, what price are you looking at?

Gaming

She said to me, two grand, but I think I want to aim for more like 1500 including monitor and OS

That's easy. 1500's enough for basically top-of-the-line everything.

Comes out to 1410$ with shipping, after mail-in rebates. That's basically what I have in front of me right now, you've go the most powerful single-GPU video card on the market, great CPU, tons of HDD space, huge monitor, and so on.

Obviously, if you wanna cut down from that, there's plenty of room for you to go down a lot.  You can probably cut down on how much you spend as well by getting different combos and rebates, I threw this together somewhat quickly. =\

Alternatively, you could spend a bit more money and get an i7 as well, just swap the CPU/motherboard combo there for this:

Hmmm. I think I will end up coming down on some of these, jsut for the sake of 'bang for your buck'. Hell, pretty sure two 200-dollar graphics cards would be a lot more efficient...

Might end up making a topic. Anybody mind?
