Forums - Sales Discussion - Darksiders outsells Bayonetta on both HD consoles (more than twice)

Whats happening is that bayonetta is too crazy over the top to be a hit in the west, people don't want that kind of games anymore, mostly the teens that buy this kind of game all they want is a badass male caracther that grunts laud and makes them feel manly.

Bayonetta will sell better with older gamers, gamers that are much more interested in its awesome gameplay then anything else, because thats its great strength its amazing gameplay , bayonetta the character is one of the most charismatic to be created in the last decade well in line the creativity that only japanese developers have

Its to bad this isn't going to sell well , in fact no one in his right mind was expecting it to be a hit, but one thing im sure will happen is that in 10 years from now people will still be talking about bayonetta and will completely forget almost all the major hits of this generation

Its a shame that kids that grew up gaming with PS2 generation... FPS's and sandbox games... probably never learned the fundimetals of solid gameplay. That is not enough to them alone... If you gave them NES castlevania, Contra or Mario they prolly wouldn't find it fun.

I see it so often with 20 year olds at my workplace... The hardest thing I've ever had to do is explain to a 21 year old whos first console was an Xbox360 why Castlevania SOTN is a better game than Uncharted.

^no one wasn't expecting it to be a hit? you kidding right? I confess I'm extremely surprised it sold poorly for a first week, I'm sure most guys around here are too.

Been there, done that NOT FOR A WHILE franchise , I would say, and certainly it's never been done like DrkS. Critics complain of the similarities between Darksiders and famous franchises of the PAST. I think anybody would be really hardpressed to find a game quite like Darksiders this generation. Bayonetta? straight-action with simple button-mashing combos and over-the-top style?  there's been plenty of that, good game though but really not "that" special.

Bayonetta isn't ab utton masher unless you play it on very low difficulties

it is.

As long as you can activate witchtime, pretty much every combination of kick and punch leads to a combo, I beat normal mode pushing random kicks and punch buttons...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

@Khuutra

oh I''ll get through it, I have faith in my skills. I just don't mind much if they aren't required ;)

Witch Time doesn't activate with dodges against enemies like Grace & Glory

If you rely solely on dodge-based Witch Time they will murder you.

on normal mode it activates against them...

easier to activate it anyway is to equip the moon accessory and dodge toward the enemy, this way you will either get a witch time from dodge or from counter..

That is one of the most offensive pre-concieved notions about teen gamers I have ever heard.

It's even a problem for people who started before then.  I went back to my parents last week.  They had my old NES hooked up.  So i thought i'd play some of the classics.

Popped in SMB 1 a game i thought would be ok, but wouldn't hold up because of the advancements in SMB3 and SMW....

I was floored by the perfection of that game.

The controls are way tighter then i remembered them being, you don't even miss the extra items.  The level layouts are perfectly constructed... no death ever feels cheap, you always feel like you have a fair chance the first time through you face something...

It's as amazing today as it was when the NES came out.

Maybe this is a sign of a dying genre, right?

Maybe only God of war can sell well in the hacknslash genre.

Darksiders is basiccaly ahacknslash gameplay too but it might have sold well because gamers love open world.

My observations:

Bayonetta was supposedly another Devil May Cry clone and since we all know how Devil may Cry 4 turned out, people were a lot more skeptical about a day 1 purchase this time around.

Bayonetta would have done a bit better on ps3 had the word of mouth not spread about how horrendous the ps3 port turned out to be. I know I would have added 1 to the # of ps3 coies sold if not for this

Darksiders has the big muscle guy that is typical of the heroes Americans love so maybe data from other regions would offset this in Bayonetta's favor but I'm not entirely sure since bayonetta seemed to have flopped in Japan as well (note that the JP flop could be due to option 2 since ps3 is a lot more relevant than 360 in JP)

Ultimately, the "others" numbers will clarify everything

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Bayonetta is outselling Darksiders actually

0.52 mil for both consoles vs 0.4 mil for both

Granted Darksiders is not out in Japan but it will doubtfully sell more than 100K on both consoles there.

are the ads for Darksiders mentioning that Joe Madureira guy? I believe it should help a bit too.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!
