my understanding is that its just a bigger DSi... thats what pictures on google show lol but why nintendo???

I am concerned with the size of those screens.  I mean the pixels on the normal DS when it went slim were still pretty big, with a screen that’s bigger again its starting to make me think of original Game boy squares lol

I thought the same thing, but supposedly for some reason I still don't understand that is not the case. I say supposedly because that's what people said when the XL came out for Japan, that it's not an issue.

If that is indeed not an issue, I might very well end up buying it since I like the idea of bigger screens and the XL's bigger size does not bother me - as I am not "on the go" a lot, my main use for it would be at home when I have time for myself but the TV where the console is is "taken" (which is most of the time...).

The visuals are fine and don't suffer from the increased size of the screens. Been reported by multiple sources who went hands-on with the DSi XL. First one I could find was IGN:

'The screens are big and bright, and are at exactly the same resolution as the standard DS and DSi's pixel count so the picture looks natural. It's not stretched or upscaled because the resolution is identical. But the big screens definitely make the games "pop" as you play them – I'm really digging The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks on the new system.'

OT: WOW that's way sooner than I thought! Marvelous! I'm getting one, definitely. Too bad the price is still unknown. Hope it won't be 200+ Euros. I'm also hoping for some nice colors, the ones revealed so far look pretty boring to me. Is that pink one in the OT's link coming to Europe? Couldn't really read all the French.

*Edit* nevermind I just found out via Kotaku it'll come in those Wine Red and Dark Brown variations... ugh.

Well thats good news guys, but that 'pop' is what I dont like about the systems 3D games. And if thats worse its not fair :( I would prefer nintendo to have made it with rgb pixels like a TV screen. Having the square single pixles makes 3D games jittery and its such a shame nintendos cost cutting/ wanting as big a proffit as possible, has left us with the 'pop.' But the games are playable and thats what it all comes down to :)

I'm not sure, it's too expensive and an unnesesary update (for me)

Personally, I want to wait an hands-on...
The big size looks interesting (the Normal DS of my girl friend is too little and L+R are not in good position for me).
Depending of the next games...
