Forums - Sony Discussion - What's up with Killzone 2's sales?

Over the holidays, I noticed that Killzone 2 was selling a consistant 17-20k per week since the slim had released.  I was pretty shocked, because it seemed the game was getting no holiday bump at all.

Only it turned out I was wrong.  The game did receive a bump, as its sales plumetted to 9k a week after the holidays ended.  This week it seems sales will be even lower, looking at our North American figures.

Here you'll find a list of the top 50 selling games published by Sony Computer Entertainment in North America for the week ending January 9th:

You'll see that Killzone 2 comes in at #26.  It's being outsold by titles like Resistance 1/2 and Socom: Confrontation on ps3, and even old PSP and PS2 titles like Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and God of War II are outpacing it.  It only sold ~100 units more than Killzone: Liberation!

Is this real?  Is this possible?  How is this happening?

It makes no sense to me.

Yeah, but it's barely outselling Liberation!  A three year old PSP game that only managed 280k in total sales!

I can understand low sales due to the controls, but these sales are SO LOW I find it hard to comprehend them. It's as if it's completely stopped selling, which simply makes no sense.

I checked Ubisoft's sales for the week to see if even Haze is beating it. Haze didn't show up in the top 50, but GRAW2 for ps3 did, and it sold 3x as much as Killzone 2 last week in North America.

I don't understand it.

i heard it took alot of money to make Kz2, will the company go the way of factor 5?

Geurrilla Games is owned by Sony.  That won't be happening any time soon.

Hmmmmmm weird.

1 of the best shooters for ps3 imo....bad advertising though.

Should have advertised like infamous did

I'd bet folks have shyed away from it sue to the lack of respect that Killzone 1 got.

Also Sony would have given them plenty of funding, don't worry Killzone 2 has probably already made a profit for GG, which is why they are making a third one (which should do better next time).

You have got to remember it has over 2m sales now, that is quite good considering the circumstances.

it's the future of handheld

It's a ways down

398 copies, apparently

It's almost as if consumers look at the box, see that Sony logo in the corner and then just put the game down and immediately walk away.

It's as if people are allergic to good first party Sony games this gen.
