Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 Dec NPD numbers based on early press release

Should be roughly 1.38 million for December for the PS3 because Sony wanted to spin ahead of time.

Since Dec 2008 was 726k for the PS3. A 90% increase would be 1.38 million.

No mention of the PSP or PS2 numbers so they must not be great.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Well probably a good reason PSP or PS2 weren't mentioned but definitely some good PS3 sales like most had been predicting and VGC has shown. But of course let's just wait til Thursday afternoon for the official numbers.

I guess we will see. Would put VGC about 200k low.

They're getting there. I think GC had a December over 1m in its best year in the USA.

Well we'll see when NPD comes out today but if that is the case than it's a fair bit undertracked. VGC only has it at 1.32 for all of Americas. Using the USA=87% of Americas algorithm NPD of 1.38 million would be 1.58 million for all of Americas. Please lets get that 1 million week back, and maybe even 2. You're probably right, PSP and PS2 numbers probably aren't going to be looking that good.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

It did in December 2003 where it sold 1.15 million units.  Preceded by 750k sold in November 2003.  Sales were obviously lifted thanks to the strong release of Mario Kart Double Dash which sold 528k in its opening month.  Actually 2003 was a pretty successful year for Nintendo on the Gamecube in general and here was one of their press releases concerning it:

Very traditional form of spin but kinda interesting how these things seem to repeat in history.  2004 on the other hand was not a very strong year for the Gamecube as it fell off pretty hard through most of the year although a good December with 810k instead.  Not saying we'll see something similar for PS3 as the market is much bigger and PS3 is in much better positioning, but amazing how you can look back at these things and see the exact same things you did then now.  Reminds me of political arguments where politicians love to put the past behind to make everything now seem life changing when indeed it has happened before.  Politicians and PR are of course the same profession haha.

Wasnt the Cube $99 when it did that?

The PS3 has been doing big numbers since September.
