Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox 360 losing ground in hardware sales in Japan and others?

It's simple really, the japanese prefer the PS3/PSP and Wii/DS to the 360.

Even more so now that i think they finally realize when it comes to home consoles, PS3's list looks very ... inviting ... since ToV and SO4 were big reasons to get a 360, those reasons are gone now.

quality recognition and competive price.

The 360 was always a fail compared to PS3 even at day one.

All the advertising and marketing pushed it out ahead but in the end, after just a few years, the PS3 is not only almost caught up, but the speed at which its overtaking 360 is accelerating. It already overtook it everywhere outside the US and in a couple years it wll have overtaken it here also.

The 360 isn't total trash, they've done a few things better then Sony but overall it's an inferior machine that was rushed to market on a tsunami of Marketing dollars and Red bull guzzling teenagers who were brain-washed into thinking it was the coolest thing ever. They are the same people who buy Cabbage Patch dolls and "Tickle-Me Elmo's" for $1000 because TV told them it was cool. The PS3 didnt' need an advertising blitz, the thing just works and works well.

I predict XBox is going to make another console within 5 years of 360s launch to compete again. And it will probably have a BluRay player in it.

I agree. I'd say consumers now see a lot more value in the PS3 proposal and it's unlikely to change anytime soon, especially since MS already slashed the 360 price to the ground, while the PS3 price still didn't reach the magical 199$.

MS now needs to either open more studios or buy more exclusives to avoid last place again, but buying exclusives is now too expensive, the PS3 installed base is too large. So they need more 1st party exclusives to increase 360 value again.

I don't understand the knee jerk response of Japan=nationalistic. One only has to look at the success of Iphone, the mega portal that yahoo japan still is, amazon Japan. McDonald's. All American brands that the Japanese know love and use in vast numbers. The Japanese like high end foreign stuff as the next guy, The marquee of owning BMW and Mercedes as veh to show you have money and taste is true over there as it is in the English speaking west.

The idea that the Japanese are somehow nationalistic when it comes to consumer products is asinine. Look at famous tv shows such as densha otaku where he uses star wars music, receives (from a rich girl) french Hermes cups as a gift, drinks a brand of tea because the Queen of Britain is purported to drink it. Japan= racist/nationalistic has no currency in the real world and trotting out such a bankrupt idea indicates ironically, a prejudice mind.

im not the guy that oppened the thread... :)

the ps3/xbox case is obvious and the wii btw is cheaper

The 360 isn't floundering in Japan but rather the PS3 is flourishing. many Japanese gamers wanted a PS3 but until the price was lowered could not afford one. Not to mention the PS3's recent success contributing to increased sales.

I think the DVD is the Cancer that is slowly killing the 360. Just imagine what the 360 could do if it had 67 GB discs for games. Not only that, it's also region locked (I never understood the point in that)... But, you have to look at things like shooters (are we sick of those things yet?). But, the PS3 is just the better console choice and is slowly becoming the next super nintendo.

Eventually, game developers are going to start putting games on 3-4 discs, because 16GB just wont cut it anymore. 360 is loosing ground because the PS3 is simply a better system for a decent price now (and more people are slowly understanding why it was 600 to begin with). The PS3 even does stuff we don't even care for.... Who really needs 7 players on a single game system? Maybe PS4 will do 10, and if we're lucky, 10 player local FPS support.

What I'm SURE will happen is something similar to adhoc party in the future. People will be able to connect and play as 1p, and 2p locally, even when player 2 is away on another system, and, it will work for PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 games...

I think Nintendo and Microsoft started the generation off well, but, the way they did it will spell doom for next gen. for both of them.

i have to agree the DVD is like a dieseas to the 360 and its slowly eating it away. the sudden surge in PS3 sale is obviously the price cut, and secondly its games are not region lock like the 360. thats why consumers are fed up to have to wait and get their games from their own region. in the PS3 case consumers can import their games without even having to wait (if the are willing to pay the price) and they get to enjot cetain extras that their own region dont offer( in some cases). other reasons could include is that consumers relise the benefit of Blu ray as everyone is getting their own HD tv.

perdictable enough to say FF13 on 360 will not do as well as the PS3, as the recent news goes round SE has cut out a number of contents jus to fit it into 3 disks.

cant say much of 360 future as now its bleak, unless NATAL pulls them out or darkness, sadly to say 360 is slowly going south.
