Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox 360 losing ground in hardware sales in Japan and others?

Brand, market awareness, image, game genre preferences, attitude to online vs offline gaming...

A whole host of stuff, of course.

In others though the 360 has done pretty well, particularly in the increasingly important UK market.

Japan was always likely to be a poor territory for 360, but it can't be denied MS gave it a big effort and they did manage to push the console past 1M - which is kind of impressive, even if not that important in the WW picture.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Others regions:
Uk- No 360 outsells the PS3.
Mainland Europe and other countries = Yes, 360 is losing lots of ground due to people in these countries preference of the Japanese consoles over the 360.
Japan:
PS3 as expected is outselling the 360 around 5 to 1 in weekly sales. 360 is losing a lot of ground to PS3 on home soil. Japanese are patriotic and buy the two Japanese systems: Wii and PS3 instead of the 360.

The 360 in Japan has been outselling the PSP Go, at least! The 360 is being outsold by the PS3 because of its game library, not just because it's American hardware. I guarantee you it would be outselling the PS3 if a game like FF were exclusive to the console.

Anyway, the 360 at this point in time is holding about as well as the N64 did (longest lasting loser console), I don't know what more you can expect from it. If it continues to sell 2-4k a week throughout the year with only multiplat releases, that's fine.

As for Others... well, not much they can do besides price cut. All MS' biggest exclusives target the American market. They need something big for Europe, Forza isn't enough, especially with GT5 coming around the corner.

Psp Go, wow =)
Just need a little more upgrades and a little teaking and its good to go

Well, back to the Thread, I still think the xbox only has natal as a possible saviour, due to my prediction of casual gaming dominating 2010 =)

Losing ground in Others - Yes.

Lost Ground in Japan - Yes.

Now, what's your point? They still have a MASSIVE lead in the States on the PS3.

techically 360 is loosing ground in america too...

last year it was dominating (137k v. 77k).  this year it is merely leading (144k v. 122k).

No, it is not. It is just outselling the PS3 (gaining ground) at a slower pace.

The Wii, for example, is not "losing ground" to the PS3.

Japan is Japan and 7k is a lot better than they were doing earlier this gen when 5k was a feat.

As far as others... the 360 isn't a compelling package compared to a PS3 for the same price. It's doing well in the US but i'd argue it still isn't a compelling package compared to a PS3 at the same price, but Americans are funny.

The 360 has no bundle that equals the PS3 one where they throw in a top notch blu-ray player for no extra price. For others, I think the 360 needs a price drop and/or a bundle that isn't yet another Lego game backed up by a mediocre racer that nobody would ever consider buying separately. The Halo 3+Fable 2 bundle was a great one. They should bring that back and change the arcade to current "Elite" bundle. Even if it's the same price, that feels like a way better deal than what they currently offer. I doubt Halo 3 and Fable 2 are still pulling in numbers that would make this a bad move. They could even get avoid manufacturing costs if they included the games pre-installed on the HDD (talking about the Elite of course) as a Games on Demmand game so that no disc was needed.

They need to do something... or maybe they don't. Their software sales are still strong compared to the PS3 so maybe that's all they care about. If they lose money on hardware maybe they don't care about the sales as long as they can move some set amount in each region.

Naja... in Others the UK marked is the biggest one for consoles and there M$ is in front of PS3.
In continental Europe like France and Germany the market for consoles isn't as big as for computergames- so M$ isn't leading there in console-sales, but in the over all sales.
And with the coming line-up, Iguess, M$ don't has to be worried about anything.
