I've got a great idea!

Let's wrap up all the children of the world in impermeable cocoons, so no light, sound or other input could possibly corrupt or harm them in any way. Then, when they turn 18, we can release them and they will be perfect, normally functioning adults who are perfectly capable of making responsible and carefully considered decisions!

Hm, it sounds like such a good idea, but I feel like there's something I'm missing...

I go to an all boys school so public displays of affection here would be somewhat creepy.

That rule is totally wrong though, its pushing the rulebook to its limits. If she had been making out with her friends then yeah, detention. But a hug goodbye?

Makes you wonder who the hell are teaching your children and what sort of qualification they've got if any.
Should have pass some sort of common sense test before they can teach?

I'll be bringing this up the next time someone complains how Europe is touchy about violence. =P

Many people in this country already grow up paranoid and isolated, usually ending up miserable and lonely. I cannot believe we are going to these kind of lengths, where the few that find an outlet from the increasingly non social US through things like hugs can further be at risk of the same fate.

 No way...Is this real?

It's sad. The lesson here to students is as follows: Bend over and take it. Don't think for yourself, don't question authority. Just bend over and take it.

Going back to the OP, what can they do? If the school administration supports the decision, what is there left that they can do? Simply a case of a couple higher-ups in a school going mad with what little power they have.

This makes me lose faith in people.

This reminds me of something....oh yeah the honor guards in Iran and other overly strict Islamic countries that many Americans fear so much now days.

This folks is what happens when you let right wing religious zealots make laws. Ban them gays, no hugs or kisses, wear your hats!!!!

@mesoteto - i sincerly hope that letter you posted is a fake. Do you have a source?

anyways, detention for a hug is lame. this world could use a bit more love.
