im guessing u dont like the wii. but ur thread is silly cuz most major third parties never supported the wii so no need to abandon it. selling over 200 mill software without much quality indicates the wii is a great console for third parties.

I disagree. If you take a look at 3rd party games that sell on the wii it seems that devs are forced to develop "shovelware" to sell their games. Most serious, mature games on the Wii that actually try don't sell at all... I think it is sad really. Carnival Games? Carnival Games: Mini Golf, MySims, MySims Kingdom, Cooking Mama, High School Musical, etc etc. The list of these games go on. If I were a serious developer, I would never lower myself to these standards... Sorry, but it's true...

Spoken like someone who has never had a real job ...

Several of the games you mention sold well because they were timely (Carnivale Games was popular because at the time people were having Wii-Parties regularly with their friends, and 4 player at the same time multiplayer wasn't that common) or because they are the kind of licenced game that has been popular on countless leading systems since the dawn of the industry (for example High School Musical). On top of that, I think you'd be surprised by how many "Core" gamers played games like MySims (which is a fairly decent Animal Crossing clone) or Cooking Mama.

Oh, ok... Yea,I never had a job.. Lol, where did you get that from? Ok, I kind of agree that Cooking Mama looks cool, but "core"? Really? Well, you can have your opinion, I don't give a flying fuck. Just continue to buy and play these games for all I care. I still look at most 3rd party games on the Wii as shit. And critics agree, and also most Wii owners agree as 3,5 million (Carnival Games, the highest 3rd party EXCLUSIVE on the Wii, excluding MARIO & Sonic at the Olympics) out of 65 million userbase isn't really that much...

Video game makers can either develop games customers want or they can go bankrupt.

Also you are omitting from your list of games: Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Call of Duty: World at War, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Call of Duty 3, Red Steel, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return. These would fit under the "serious" and "mature" labels.

Yeah, that's 7 games! Woooow!!! 7 games!!! Which half can be found at the HD twins as well, and the other half are ports (not Red Steel)! Sorry, I own a Wii, but that is for Nintendo games only and some 3rd party. RE4 is a port from last gen, yippie...

What does it matter if they are on the other consoles or not? They still sold over a million.

You need to get your facts straight. Dead Space Extraction numbers aren't France only! lol. Here's another article about it: -

The game sold only 9,000 copies in the US between September 29 and October 3, according to NPD sales data.

  9000 in 5 days (US)

16000 in 3 months (WW)

Is that possible? I don't think so...

Unfortunately third party games sell to well on Wii.

A half arsed game or a cheap with no advertisement spin-off only has a chance to sell well on Wii.

Ok..

Userbase of Wii: 65 million - Resident Evil 4 - 1.67 million

Userbase of Gamecube: 21.74 (Wikipedia) million? - Resident Evil 4 - 1.69 million

Star War Force Unleashed sold more on both PS3 AND 360 despite having HALF the userbase (360/PS3) or even 1/3rd (GC).

This is reality. If a system with 65 million userbase was mature game friendly it should manage to sell more than systems with half and 1 third of their userbase. Wii gamers buy Nintendo games (mostly) and shovelware 3rd party... this is my opinion / take on it and it will never change unless I see some impressive sales. most Nintendo games are still epic!

This thread can't possibly end well...

In my humble opinion, I believe third party developers are still groping in the dark on what would really appeal to the Wii audience.

Take for example, Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers, the review consensus is that Square Enix inserted to much "mini game" elements into the title in a desperate way to appeal to the casual Wii gamers as well. I believe FF:CB would have rated higher reviews had they done it with a more hardcore appeal, since FF games are mostly a hardcore fare. They mashed-up too many casual and some hardcore elements that it's not appealing to both gamer types that well. Trying to please everyone, as the saying goes.

3rd party developers don't seem to have any clear idea what would be a hit to the Wii. Maybe they should communicate more with the audience. I don't know, maybe hold surveys, or gamer forums? I don't know. But they should get to know the Wii audience better than what they are currently doing.

Now Nintendo, they researched their audience for years probably, and now they know exactly what their audience wants, which is of course just logical. Their console, their games. They have a 100% grasp on their audience's taste, and we all know that is paying off well.

Sure, we have good reviewed 3rd party titles such as No More Heroes (which sold a decent 0.47m) but then again, it didn't match Nintendo titles sales wise.

Anyway, to summarize my point, I believe 3rd parties are doing too much trial and error. My suggestion: just simply ask the crowd what they want.
