Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Greenberg: "Millions of Natals in Consumers' Homes this Holiday"

I think Natal will sell about 2% of the existing user base in 2010. I'm going to pick it up for my kids.

I don't think ive ever seen as much hype for something, so far from release.

If they get this right, it could be really big.

If they fuck this up, it will be the blunder of the century.

Implying Vista wasn't already the blunder of the century. Well technically last century .

I think if theres 2 million in peoples homes by the end of January his statement qualifies. We will see what happens.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Vista a bigger blunder than PS3?  Did Vista lose billions of dollars and cost Microsoft the lead in consumer operating systems?

wait and see

too bad that people like to make thread about shitty PR statement

what games are going to be designed specifically for Natal ? wait, we dont know yet ....

I think 3D is going to be the big holiday seller this year, not Natal. 3D hype is already tenfolth that of Natal, and Natal is mostly anticipated by people actively following the gaming industry. 3D is being talked about everywhere even on the news, with a big thanks to Avatar.

I think it will sell millions, Microsoft will make Xbox/Natal bundles and millions of Xbox's sell within that time period anyway. Sony is going to have a few months edge over Natal so it will be interesting to see global sales at end of Jan '11 for the two

Pathetic Earthlings

I could see this selling like wii on its first holiday season :D

Yeah i think that this can happen.

you said something very true that has generate a lot more impact that NATAL :

AVATAR

because of this movie, the hype, the amazing amount of money generate AND the mainstream effect, it isure that 3D is not gonna die so easly... perhaps the big surprise in the home for end of 2010.

There is a 50mb software package that powers some of Natal's magic, which raises concerns that original Xbox 360 Arcade units wouldn't have the storage availability to use Natal. Greenberg assuaged our concerns, reminding us of Microsoft's NXE outreach, offering a free 512mb Memory Unit or a discounted hard drive. "It's kind of like the digital TV conversion you know, [subsidizing] the box," Greenberg said. "We did that with the New Xbox Experience because it did require some space and so we feel like now we're in an environment where we feel like we're fine."

This is going to limit the sales of Natal and increase the costs for MS.  Not good news.
