Well, they only sold 500,000 of them LAST WEEK ALONE, and there's 55 million of them sold SO FAR, why in the hell would someone think it's a failure?

DS sales completely rape them. and besides, i think we can all agree that Nintendo makes the best handhelds and that job should remain solely with them.

Even if the DS sales rape the PSP it has been a profitable venture for Sony unlike the PS3.  Diversity in the  market is a great thing for consumers. Some people have different  tastes.  One could argue that the situation should be in reverse. Dump the hemoraghing system and focus on making the profitable one better and more appealing.

So.. the Wii has the same problem.. It sells well, but, software is another story... Maybe Nintendo should take this advice too.... for the long run...

Holy crap.. I just noticed this came from IGN... Wow... I don't like those guys anymore, that did it... They re-designed their site to look like crap, and now they post ignorant articles. I'd noticed it a few times before, but, this is enough...

There's no reason to cancel the PSP when it's making PROFIT. Sony just better make the next PSP(2) as hard to hack as a PS3, and give it mini blu-ray discs with no plastic casing around it. Also, the N2000 series should be slightly redesigned, and have a larger screen, smaller screens are never better.

PSP did well against Nintendo, it didn't fail like all of SEGA's tries.. Next generation, PSP will do the Nintendo like 360 did to PS3. Big corporations learn from their mistakes, that's how they survive.

wii doesn't sell software?  where have you been?

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Yeah 55 million sales sure is a failure. And 500k last week? What a piece of shit. I mean if it can't do 1 million weekly it must suck.

Come on IGN, we all know the PSP is no DS. Its not gonna sell 2 million in a week like the DS does, but damn its the best selling handheld ever not called a gameboy or DS.

The real question is has it been a profitable venture for Sony?

Software has never really sold particularly well on the PSP even though it was more expensive to develop this software (than Nintendo DS or previous handheld software); and the hardware was (potentially) sold at a loss early on, with very large initial R&D costs (with more than modest ongoing R&D costs from the constant hardware revisions).

I'm not saying it has been a disaster for Sony, but I doubt many people would measure it as much of a success (in console terms) when you are looking at profit.

DS sales completely rape everything... Ever.

Just because DS outsells it, doesn't mean it is a failure.

Damn right just because it sell less doesen't mean it's a faliure.Is the 360 a faliure?Was N64 a failure?

So far, yes. (Still deep in the red).

Was N64 a failure?

According to Nintendo, yes.

I disagree completely with this. This was sony's first noticeable attempt at taking marketshare from the sole captures of the handheld audience. And they have moderate success! Sure they poured lots of money into something that was eaten alive by nintendo, but since when has 55 million been a bad number to sell in terms of hardware? Easily the psp will cross into the 60 million maybe even claw its way into the 65+ million

So sony should just give this up? hells no, try again and if that fails...then give up :D
