Forums - Sony - Rumour: failure rate for PS3 is quite high in Belgium

Only in Belgium? Right...

I don't know so far I didn't read anyhing else about it.

I checked Dutch and Belgium PS3 forums and no one seems to have any issues with their consoles. Well, apart from a few cases of course, no technological design ever had a 0% failure rate. No issues with the 40 GB version at least.

PSN name: Gazz1979 (feel free to add me, but please put your Vgchartz name in the message!)

Battlefield 2: Gazz1979

Maybe it's people trying to put PS2 games in there? lol

hmm.. isn't it funny ,that the original news on gamed.nl vanished?

Wouldn't surprise me as cutting corners would make sense for the 40GB model. But who knows at this point. Would be quite a death blow to Sony if their affordable model was doomed to technical failure globally.

Think to yourself:

What change made for the 40 gig could actually cause it to have a 40% failure rate?

Probably none.

Which would lead me to believe this is an isolated incident.

Hrmmmm... will be interesting to see how this turns out.

That's the most unconvincing argument I've heard all day ;)

It's not hard to come up with potential reasons:

1- Different manufacturer (Foxconn allegedly)
2- Less ventilation holes in the box (I recall there being some photos showing this)

If this turns out to be true, we'll for sure hear more about it in the next few weeks. For now, I'd say it's more likely that it's bogus or just a problem in a single batch, but who knows?

And some chips have been removed (aka Backward Compatibility)...

If this turns out to be a significant problem then it will take away a significant arguement that Sony has been using to sell the PS3...  It is a luxury console that doesn't have a high failure rate...

To those naysaying that it is isolated...  Thats what Microsoft starting saying for initial RRoD issues.

Maybe it is people trying to play PS2 games on your PS3 because according to people on this site, eveyone does that, and maybe it says that it doesn't work or gives them an error or something so people are saying that their PS3s are broke? Or maybe there is something wrong? Just wanted to point out that "everyone" uses their PS3 to play PS2 games and some unsuspecting customers may not know it doesn't play PS2 games...
