Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I still can't believe why Mario Galaxy didnt sell more.

With the uber incredible sales of Mario Kart, New super mario bros and a few other mario related games i can't believe Galaxy has sold about 9mill when it's clearly the masterpiece of the Wii, i do like NSBW and mario kart but they are knowhere near galaxy and yet they will more than double its sales when its all said and done, why do you think so?

Not that 9mill is bad, its great but if any Mario game deserved uber sales on the wii then it was galaxy.

I agree. I always thought it would sell more than that. And it deserves more than that.

It's not as pick up and play, and it doesn't really have the same gameplay that people seek from a 2D Mario. It doesn't really share any of the qualities that made MK and NSMB mega hits.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

because 2D mario > 3D mario

i can understand it not selling more that mario kart and NSMBwii, those 2 just appeal to a wider audience.

what i am suprised at is that its not sold much more than Sunshine and hasnt even outsold 64, which is very poor when you take the user base into account.

I guess games like Galaxy require a lot more commitment, skill and time than Mario Kart.
Same as MW2 type games (I know I'm going to get bashed by people) they are a basic pick up and play for a short time type games that require a fairly low level of skill to play through.

MK / MW = instant gratification

Galaxy = commitment needed

Mario Galaxy sucked and here's why:

=D, that's history now let's move on.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

I dissagree, Mario 64 and Galaxy are as good as any videogame ever made.

It just doesn't have the arcade appeal of those other games. I don't mind those games, but I know better than to think that kind of game is mainstream.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Extremely limited multiplayer and slightly less accessible gameplay. That's all there is to it.

Besides, not every game can be a 20 million unit mega-blockbuster. I'm sure Nintendo will keep delivering highly polished 3D Marios as long as they sell like cute little baby blockbusters.
