Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Project Natal drops hardware Motion detection to save costs!

People keep saying the specs are released. I have seen no specs. Just generalized statements mentioned in an interview. Can someone show me these "specs".

There have never been any specs available. We do not even know the resolution of the tof chip (the key item as far as Natal pricing is concerned). All this meandering about "they took out the processor chip" is people who do not have the slightest clue as to what it actually takes to build such a complex hardware system. Note that only one source in this thread has correctly quoted: The chip responsible for bone structure was removed. Notice this is just a small part of the whole hardware, and apparently a part that can be emulated in software without too high a load on the Xbox processor. You still need processors/gate arrays to control all the image/sound parts of Natal.

And this is where I have a problem with Natal. All you hear about is what this camera will do and capture and how many whatevers per second will be recognised and stuff. So do you people really still not understand the success of the Wii or you're still in denial. How many of you remember Nintendo's unveiling of the Wii and how the games will be played. They just got people on stage and put the controller in their hands. Simple. It sold and sold and sold.

Its almost as if this Natal thingy is being designed for technological geeks or something. No normal person cares about Natal and unless they bundle it extensively, it will be most fortunate to sell 10m worldwide. Where are the fun games? Is discussing technology really that fun to you guys. Please I am not impressed.

Either Microsoft start the hype when some real games are ready or just shut up like Nintendo normally does.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Come on show us the games MS. Make me want an XBOX. So far I don't care whether you're better than the PSeye or the Motion plus. I own 4 motion pluses for a reason. I don't even know what tech is powering it. See, that is what will propel you to success or failure. Its not as easy as low price. Even if its $10 as at now I can say I won't buy it. So convince me

yeah I remember when Nintendo did that and that's what I've seen MS do as well...they put people in front of it and the play the games and they enjoy it, how have you seen something different?  Techie's were talking about the Wii just like techie's are talking about Natal now, the mainstream will enjoy it just like the techie's will keep talking specs.

So you have seen the specs? Tell me (since I'm interested in a few things):

-What is the resolution of the tof-chip / the rgb chip? Who makes the chip?

-How is the tof-chip controled (pulsed or sine-modulated)? Is it programmable or fixed (the "4cm cube")?

-Are the two lenses fixed or zoomable?

-Who/what correlates the two images taken by the tof and the rgb chip?

-Who/what does the sound processing? The facial recognition?

I really hope this succeeds.

Yes, those would be specs.
