Forums - Sales - Wii Sports/Fit ► Wii Sports Resort/Fit Plus?

Here we go, my first thread. Hope you guys don´t throw me out immediately *lol*

Before Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus were released, a lot of user here believed there were no way they could match or top the sales of their predecessors. Now that both games have been on the market for quite while, it is time to have a first look how they seel compared to their predecessors.

1) Wii Sports vs. Wii Sports Resort

Since the game comes bundled with the console in the US and Others, it is hard to make a fair comparison there. I will try it nonetheless.

Japan: Wii Sports vs. Wii Sports Resort weeks 1-52: http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=Japan&game1=Wii+Sports+-+Wii[2667]&reg2=Japan&game2=Wii+Sports+Resort+-+Wii[24656]&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=52

After 27 weeks on the market, Wii Sports Resort has sold 1555258 copies, which is an average of ~ 57602 units/week. In the same timeframe, Wii Sports sold 1658762, which is an average of ~ 61436 units/week.This means until now, sales are down by 6,24%. Between weeks 28-52, Wii Sports sold 587120 units, which means Wii Sports Resort could do ~ 550000 units until then. Anyway, the second installment should top 2mio within the first year in Japan, which means it would still be down only ~ 10% compared to Wii Sports. But maybe momentum will change again, because until week 17, Wii Sports Resort sold better.

US/Others: Within 27 weeks, Wii Sports Resort has sold 9480746 units combined. Although bundled, Wii Sports only sold 5065370 copies, which means Wii Sports only sold 53% of Wii Sports Resort.

Conclusion: I know there were heavy supply constraints at that time worldwide and it doesn´t do as good as its predecessor in Japan, but I think sales until now state that there is no way we can say Wii Sports Resort has not done a good job until now. I would even say it is very likely that Wii Sports Resort will eventually exceed 20mio sold units, which would make it another huge hit in the Wii series.

2) Wii Fit vs. Wii Fit Plus.

The Comparison betwen the 2 Wii Fit games is not easy either, because Wii Fit, unlike Wii Fit Plus, did not launch at the same time worldwide. Therefore, I will compare the three regions for the first 9 weeks the games were available.

Japan weeks 1-9 http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=Japan&game1=Wii+Fit+-+Wii[7480]&reg2=Japan&game2=Wii+Fit+Plus+-+Wii[35077]&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=9

Wii Fit: 1280107

Plus: 973564

America weeks 1-9 http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=America&game1=Wii+Fit+-+Wii[7480]&reg2=America&game2=Wii+Fit+Plus+-+Wii[35077]&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=9

Wii Fit: 1416803

Plus: 1610821

Others weeks 1-9 http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=Others&game1=Wii+Fit+-+Wii[7480]&reg2=Others&game2=Wii+Fit+Plus+-+Wii[35077]&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=9

Wii Fit: 1640189

Plus: 2688796

Total Wii Fit after 9 weeks: 4337099

Total Wii Fit Plus after 9 weeks: 5273181

Once again, since Wii Fit did not launch at the same time worldwide, these are the numbes of the first 9 weeks after the release of the game in each territory. What do these numbers tell us now? Well at first, Wii Fit only sold 82,25% of what Wii Fit Plus did in the first 9 weeks. However, this is not a fair comparison because in Others and America, Plus benefitet from christmas holiday sales.

Conclusion: I cannot tell how well Wii Fit Plus would have done without christmas in the first 9 weeks and I don´t know how it will do in 2010,  but I think ~ 7 mio sales in 13 weeks for Wii Fit Plus are very good numbers. 10mio+ is out of question and I think Plus has even a chance of going 20mio+. If it did, it would not be far away from Wii Fit sales, which would once again mean it sold quite well compared to Wii Fit.

Thoughts?

Around the Network

Hm, it remains to be seen if WFP will ever be able to beat the original WiiFit's sales... I think it just might, provided Nintendo don't bring out another sequel too soon. It's cheap, so a lot of people who own the original will be upgrading, and I also think there will be quite a lot of people who will buy WFP w/ Balance Board, so that would boost its sales even more. The original has practically stopped selling now, so... it'll be interesting to watch.

Resort doesn't have a chance in hell to outsell Wii Sports, but that's mainly because of the bundles. Still, the game'll see incredible sales. 20m+ easily, imo. Same goes for WFP.

Oh, and congrats on your first thread! Quite a well-thought-out one, too!

Wii Sports > Wii Sports Resort in sales, that is certain.

For Wii Fit Plus to beat Wii Fit, I think at least 40% of the original Wii Fit owners will have to upgrade. Could happen, it'll just take a while to do.
