Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft: '2010 will be the Biggest Year in Xbox History'

Didn't they say in 2007 that they had the best gaming lineup of all time? Then they were essentially beaten by Wii Play, Mario Galaxy, Guitar Hero III, and Mario & Sonic...

I know he is working for VGC, but this is trolling. The topic has nothing to do with the wii at all. Normal users would get a 3 day ban for this.

I was banned for three days, because I said Left 4 Dead was exclusive.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

IMHO the 360 has the best games line up for 2010 including: Halo: Reach, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Alan Wake, etc.  You forgot to mention Mass Effect 2(console exclusive) and Crack down 2(exclusive)- two games that will not be on the PS3. The Wii has Super Mario Galaxy 2 and a New Zelda game.

Multiplatform games in 2010 include FFXIII launched in the west along with Bioshock 2.

PS3 only has God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5  and Heavy Rain and  I would not hold my breath on M.A.G.(hardcore online only game) or Agent(never heard of that game) they are unproven games. FFXIII Versus and FF XIV may not arrive in 2010.

Natal is the 360s secret weapon in 2010. Oh it also has upcoming price cuts that will further attract more consumers especially the lower end of the market when the Arcade 360 hits the $149 in 2010.

I can't see ME2, Crackdown 2, Halo: Reach being system sellers, just for the reason that ME, Crackdown and Halo 3/ODST would have sold the consoles previously, anyone who "must play" those games on a console would have already picked up a 360 for the originals.

Now, on the PS3 side, the 3 (or 4 if you include MAG) are all the 1st iteration of "that game" on this generation of console so I think we will see some hardware move, also Modnation is slated for the first quarter I believe as well.

Either way, I'm going to have a very busy Q1 with all these games for the 360/PS3 :)

if natal turns out to be a success I'd say 2011 or 2012 will be most successful year for xbox 360.

No I don't, I defend the 360 when it needs defending, I just find it amazing that people (not you necessarily) seem to be blind to the fact that the 360 isn't the console that's in the best shape for 2010. It's also strange that people talk about the 360 having the best quality games when that is very subjective and if anybody brings up the number of PS3 games that were above 85 or 90 on metacritic in comparison to the 360, they'll say something like 'you can't trust reviewers' or 'game quality is subjective' (seems this can be used both ways).

Definitely better than 2009.

And you can be as subjective as you wish, but the 360 2010 lineup is amazing.

No doubt the XBOX 360 has a better exclusive line up this year but so do the other consoles. The PS3 line up basically cancels out the 360 line up as they are very similar in quality (I'm sure you can agree there) and what you're left with is a Q2 GEM vs. a Q4 Natal and PS3's momentum vs. 360's decline. Which is what I meant when I said 'the best shape for 2010'

Look I just look at the sentence '2010 will be the biggest year in XBOX history' and kinda have to wonder how you can gauge that if not on a sales level. A few people think the GameCube was better than the Wii, does that mean the GameCube is bigger in the history of gaming than Wii? If the 360 gains more 90+ Metacritic titles this year than any other year then I'll concede in terms of game quality, 2010 was the biggest year in XBOX history. Until that time comes, I remain sceptical.

Halo:Reach will sell more ltd copies than Gran Turismo 5. Halo series is now the biggest exclusive non-Wii console brand name this generation. Halo:ODST released last September an expansion pack has sold around 4 million and counting. Halo 3 sold over 10.5 million and counting. Gran turismo 5: prologue released early 2008 has sold below 4 million.  Gran Turismo series was big on PS1/2 but the market has changed this generation. FPS games have taken over.

"Console exclusive" is the key phrase: Mass effect 2, Splinter Cell: conviction and Alan Wake will actually sell more genuine copies on the 360 than the PC.  PC gaming is plagued by bootleg copies and you have to have a fairly powerful machine to run the latest games these days.

I would think selling 4 million copies for something that is little more than a "demo" is pretty darn good

Fixed.

Two things.

1. PS3 has won line up of the year for the past two years running and I know for a fact that it had more 85+ games in 2009 than any platform, that's what I was referring to before.

2. I'm sorry if you feel I'm trying to derail the thread, I won't mention any other console from now on. I would like to know though, why is the 360 going to have a better year than any other year it has had? Can you give me any solid evidence to back that up?

ο_Ο

Sorry pal, but we're seeing gaming from a totally different perspective. I'm not gonna argue why and how is the 360 2010 console exclusive line up 10x superior to the PS3's one, but CANCEL???

I mean... WTF!!!

Why should a console line up PREVENT me from enjoy the games of the other console?

What, they seriously expect it to be all down hill after this year?

1. The 360 has far more games on metacritic at

80+. : 184 v 145

85+ : 80 v 71

90+ : 26 v 19

2. This years line up is far in excerss of last years plus natal plus price cut.

People talk about the decline of the 360 like its sales have collapsed... the sales are down 5% this year (which is actually well within the margins of error) this in the face of a very aggressive pricing and advertising campaign from Sony. Dont believe the hype.

5% ? counting all the year, right ? counting the 9 months BEFORE the ps3 price cut but AFTER the 360 one (2008) where it was up yoy weekly, right ?

then dont put too much importance on those 5%

because when you will look at early 2010 post holidays sales you will realize it is more than 5%  decrease and PS3 yoy increase will be huge

Those yoy datas are too much dependant on price cut pacing and just reflect it IMO ...

2. So are you telling me that the history of the XBOX includes 2009 and 2010 and that's it?

1. I know I said I wouldn't but I feel I need to clarify. You agree that the PS3 has been on shelves for 4 years where the XBOX has been out for 5?

Average per year:

80+. : 36.8 v 36.25

85+ : 16 v 17.75

90+ : 5.2 v 4.75

And seeing how we're talking about a year in particular, not overall, I think it's safe to say that there is no 'excess' involved here and the 360 will need to go above and beyond it's own averages if it's going to be considered the 'biggest year in XBOX history.'

Also what hype? I've seen one PS3 ad on TV all holiday season. I'm going by the way the generation is going, every console is down except the PS3 at the moment, it's not going to suddenly change any time soon.
