As you probably know that when it comes to off topic political threads, I've always stressed the need for people to give to charities.

Because of that belief, I wanted to figure out a way to help out charities more than I have been, as there is only so much money one can give to charities, especially when you don't always have money.

With that in mind, I have partnered with my brother to create a charity application for Facebook. Rather than the program forcing you to spend your own money (via shopping at an online retailer, or using your own credit card/paypal account), the program focuses on allowing you to 'earn' money to give to charities. For example, there are many websites that will pay the person that signs you up $1.00 for registering at a website, playing a game online, or downloading a product (like Yahoo! Toolbar).

What the program does is take that money that 'I' would earn for signing you up, and giving it to you, allowing you to designate that money to go to charity. The goal of the program is to raise $10 million USD for various charities in 2010. I think this is certainly do-able, as there is certainly enough interest out there to see this project get off the ground.

However, I need some beta testers for the program. It is still in an early beta. The program is online (has a location on Facebook), but is in great need of testers.

If you would like to test this out, you will need the following:

• A Facebook account
• About 30 minutes
• The desire to help others

Depending on what you want to test, I can give any VGC-er the link to the program. I don't want to post the link publically, because as I said, it is in very early beta. So far, the actual 'earn' section (where you can raise money for your account) works, but you cannot donate the money at this time...So I understand if some are unwilling to beta test, when one may be worried about when they can donate to a charity.

Also, if any VGC-ers work with a charity, please let me know. We will need to add charities to the program as well. This aspect is in the design stages, but if your interested in that, please respond to the thread.

And finally, if anyone should wonder, any money not assigned to charities during the beta test will go toward charity and/or finishing the development of the program. I am not (personally) building this program, so any cash raised will not go to me. I am paying for this program entirely out of pocket and I don't want, or expect to be paid back for it.

*please note, the app is still in really, REALLY early beta. I cannot guarentee that if you complete an offer, you will be able to assign the funds to a specific charity. If you cannot, then I will make sure that the funds go towards a charity for the Haiti earthquake.

Thats actually a genius idea stickball but unfortunately I dont have facebook.......you should try to do this with other mediums because this is a fantastic idea.

The program will be fully deployed on a website as well. You won't 'need' Facebook for it, but the social component is through the Facebook UI.

What that means is that for marketing the program - you'll tell friends about it on Facebook among other venues. But you won't be required to use it on Facebook.
