Well my understanding is full HD is 1080P, which would mean only 1920x1080. Dont know why you would expect an extra 120 lines

Because that's the highest accepted standard. Usually full means the entire, obviously it's not the entire range of HDs if they leave out higher resolutions.

Full HD is a movie industry term for the common consumer.  Its to help people who dont do research in finding a 1080p TV.   To me it sounds like ou didnt do your homework on the monitor before buying.

So this holiday season was full of sales and what not. Nothing pissed me off more than seeing another 24" FULL HD Monitor XXXXX for $150.

Now, I'm thinking, holy shit a 1920x1200 monitor for $150! WHAT AN EFFING DEAL!

Turns out full hd means that it's just 1920x1080 at best. So what gives, that's most definitely not the best consumer resolution, so how is is HD? If that was the FULL HD then wtf is a 1920x1200 display? GODLIKE HD?

I guess its called Widescreen Ultra eXtended Graphics Array...Super Turbo Third Strike.

In any case, there are even greater resolutions than that. My buddy bought a monitor that has 2000x1500 something. He is a graphcis designer or something...

I think we can safely stop at 1920x1080 as a society...lol. Time to move on to 3D, virtual reality, sex toys...resolution have been maxed out.

I'd kill for a higher than resolution than 1920x1200 but I don't think my graphics card can even handle games at those resolutions.

Those namings are hilarious. Starts of with XGA then it starts adding super, ultra, widescreen, alpha 2 Beta EXXTREME!

Also is it just me or does WUXGA sound like something you'd stick your dick in?

Edit: It'd prefer we stop at 1920x1200, although It'd dbe nice if larger screen sizes had larger resolutions. 1920x1080 on ur 52" is just painful to watch since you can clearly see jaggies, not so much if it's on the 32". A higher resolution for the bigger screen would alleviate the problems.

AFAIK, the highest resolution consumer monitor are the Dell and Apple (and some other companies like HP I think) 30" displays with an amazing 2560x1600 resolution.  That's twice the number of pixels as 1920x1080.

Full HD means 1080p and it's a widescreen 16:9 display

1920x1200 is not Full HD.. it's capable but is it doesn't meet the widescreen standard..  it's 16:10

i would avoid a screen like that (although i have one but i would not buy again) for gaming because i don't like to have borders on top and bottom while playing a 1080p game... stick with 1920x1080 dipsplays

btw my LG monitor has a HD ready sticker although its 1920x1200..  even if a monitor has a higher resolution it cant be called full hd..

Actually "Full HD" Is in fact 1920x1080 progressive scan. This is the res blu ray and etc run in. Also, its a perfectly good res, I run in fullHD res on my 32" monitor and it looks perfect. Higher res is a waste of GPU power at this point, your picture is not going to look a ton sharper. 1920x 1080 and x1200 are just different aspect ratios. 16:9 and 16:10 , 16:9 is good for native HD video like blu ray, 16:10... not sure how it came about to be honest though most modern game engines support both aspect ratios.

Most 1920x1200 monitors have scaling that fills the whole screen if playing at 1920x1080. However you are better off playing with the black bars... I hate when an image is stretched/compressed.

I haven't had any problems playing games at 1920x1200 on my comp.

Even Wii games, with it set to 16:9, look fine on the monitor.

I have never had a game play with black bars on the monitor when it runs on 1920x1200 to be honest. I've been looking fo these mostly because after I got used to a 1920x1200 the 1080s look kind of funny and small vertical-wise. Also playing even WoW on a 1200 over a 1080 shows some differences (the spell icons look a bit more hand drawn).
