Forums - Gaming Discussion - EA: PS3 and Xbox 360 games could get cheaper in 2010

The price of home console games have gone up especially on current gen consoles such as the PS3 and Xbox 360. Last generation the price of video games were much lower than it is currently. However, according to some, video games may get cheaper in 2010.

According to Gameinformer, EA Canada senior producer Jason DeLong made some rather interesting comments regarding the current price of video games. With the increase in the price of video games from $50 to $60 USD, many gamers were initially peeved at the price hike.

However, according to DeLong, prices of video games may drop in 2010 with more publishers relying on DLC to supplement development costs. This may be a brilliant idea as it certainly would help spur sales with the state of the economy. Its surprising this suggestion is coming from a publisher considering Bobby Kotick’s comments about raising the prices of video games.

i doubt this will happen seeing as how money hungry devs are this time around. what are your thoughts?

I see this as more a case of new IP's and games which are a general 'harder sell' being priced to undercut the competition, as oppose to a retail-wide thing.

Definitely a good idea though.

Well EA had a ton of sales this holiday season...

I think they're watching Dragon Age closely. It was a game that was about $30 off for the month of December and has a long list of DLC coming out.

I hope so from EA and other companies.

Yeah that sounds great "hey games are $10 cheaper now" but you know what? They will probably have 25% less content on the disk and they will sell the remaining 25% of content that should be on the disk in the first place as DLC and when alls said and done you will probably have paid $70 or more for the game that would have been $60.

That's my opinion anyways. Thank goodness for games like Fallout 3 that offer 100+ hours (including side missions and fucking around) of fun before the DLC is even counted.

This.

Not that this affects me either way, I usually just get games when they're on sale on Steam.  My Xbot brother gets a hard-on if a game he wants is on sale for 40$, where as the thought of spending that much on a game sickens me, it's amusing. :D

just for a point of reference, don't forget games have gotten significantly cheaper since the transition away from cartridges, genesis and snes games could easily cost 70 to 100 dollars in the US (though 100 dollars was rare)
