Tales - Better but I'll still prefer ToS since it was my first love.

FF - Better, at least when we're talking about Versus.

KH - Even I guess?

Zelda - So far last gen is better.

Mario - Last gen is better only because of TTYD.

Dragon Quest - Pending. DQ VIII was great though. I hope DQ X is better.

I didn't know FF was one of your favorite franchises

I love FF VIII and IX (and currently playing X and like that too)...

cool X is my second favorite behind VI, let me know what you think as you go through it!

Ace Combat: Worse, 6 was a let down and have heard nothing about another one.

Call of Duty: Better, and it would be much better until MW2 came out, but that one bad egg didnt ruin the others.

The Elder Scrolls: Better, Oblivion was just brilliant.

Grand Theft Auto: Worse GTAIV the worst out of the last 4 made (not including handheld versions)

Gran Turismo: Dont know yet but looks promising, GT5P was really good for what it offered

God of War: Again I dont know yet but the demo was awesome.

MechWarrior: Dont know yet I just hope the 360 version doesnt ruin my favorite PC series of all time.

Metal Gear Solid: Better, other than a few bad story choices, quite possibly the greatest game ever.

King's Field: Now called Demon's Souls :D

Final Fantasy: Waiting on XIII, VS XIII and XIV... I'm anticipating XIV will consume my life.

Well, here goes my list:

Zelda - So far so good, Phantom Hourglass and Twilight Princess are classics unto themselves :)

Mario - NSMBWii is the best mario since Super Mario World, enough said :D, Plus Mario&Luigi:BIS is the best Mario RPG i've played after Super Mario RPG for the SNES

Metroid - Prime 3 was extremely good, but i'm eagerly awaiting for Other M (Hunters was a huge letdown)

Final Fantasy - So far so good as well, Dissidia and Crisis Core were both very good games adapted to a portable reality, far better than the Persona games fared (P3P is Persona 3 very light)

Persona - Persona Portable games weren't that good, too much dumbed down and not very adapted to a portable machine and still playing like they were console counterparts which hurts the entire concept of handhelds.

Gran Turismo - GT5:P and GT PSP both were a very good appetizer for the main course, GT5

Parasite Eve - It's getting a new game this year yeah!!! 9 years in the waiting for this :D

Kingdom Hearts - Haven't tried out 358/2 Days, but from what we have been show so far from KH:BBS, it looks like it's going as epic as the PS2 games were.

Elder Scrolls - Oblivion vanille (without mods) was a bit of a letdown if you compare to the massive scale of Morrowind and all the content of the game, thank god that Oblivion had OOO, MMM and Fran's, making it the most complete WRPG experience this gen so far (but only with mods).

Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin are the two best RPG approaches to the entire saga after Symphony of the Night.

Metal Gear Solid - MGS4 was an epic conclusion to the entire story of Solid, yes it had some loop holes and some conclusions were a bit "hasty", but if you look at the entire context, it makes sense somehow, and that's the genious of Kojima :)

Sonic - Dissapointing as ever, Sonic Adventures for the Dreamcast was the last glimpse of geniality from the Blue Hedgehog :( (I want Sonic Spinball back damn it!!!)

Current PC Build

CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"

Zelda: It gets worse with each generation. Even though I thought Wind Waker was just "okay", Twilight Princess is downright crap. I tried to replay it and the first 5 hours of the game are a nightmare, it takes ~3 hours just to get to the first dungeon because you have to deal with so much other stuff. The character design is horrid (excluding Midna, Ganondorf, and Zelda), the music is ho-hum, being stuck in the twilight realm sucks, and the towns are utterly meh-worthy.

Oh but it gets better! Phantom Hourglass is easily the worst of the handheld Zeldas, although technically impressive it still looks worse than Sloth's face, the controls simplify the gameplay dramatically, and the sailing is even worse than it was in Wind Waker. In fact, I often like to compare PH's sailing to the sailing levels in Sonic Rush Adventure, because you know it's a sad day when Sonic outperforms Zelda (which it does, by a mile).

Metal Gear Solid: Although MGS4 was a total fan service, and an absolute joy to play, it's really only fun to play the first time around. I can't stand replaying MGS4, because everything is answered, leaving no room for interpretation, and the very end of the game ruins the entire experience. It's still a great game, but I hate replaying it, while I still enjoy replaying MGS2 and Twin Snakes.

Metroid: Metroid Prime 3 is fantastic, and my favorite of the Prime games, but I don't know if I'd say the series has gotten better, it's mostly stayed the same. I think 3-d Metroid needs some more powerful hardware in order to really improve, because the layout is still quite linear, whereas I think an open-world 3-d Metroid would really push the series forward.

Mario: I don't like Galaxy as much as Mario 64, because Mario is less acrobatic, and the gameplay is a lot easier (however, it's still quite close to Mario 64). Galaxy is still an improvement over Sunshine though, although I loved the platforming in Sunshine, the level design was too repetitive. As for NSMB? I despise it. It is boring and incredibly easy compared to Super Mario World, Super Mario Land 2, and SMB3. I constantly replay those three games, but I only needed to replay NSMB once in order to realize that it's not worth revisiting. I can't offer an opinion on NSMB Wii because I haven't played it, I do not have much interest in it after playing NSMB on the DS though.

Everyone is going to hate me for this post.

Interesting topic

Zelda - Slightly better so far, hard to judge since a Wii exclusive hasn't released. But I really like Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, they are the first handheld Zelda games I've enjoyed.
Mario- Much better, Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite Mario since SMB 3, and NSMBWii is a lot of fun with others.
The Sims - Even, the Sims 3 improved enough over The Sims 2 that I can't bring myself to going back to The Sims 2, although I played The Sims 2 more when it came out then I have Sims 3.
Mario Kart- Much better, Mario Kart Wii is my favorite in the series, and double dash is my least favorite so it is not much of a competition.

Still waiting for a Pikmin game this generation.

Splinter Cell- Double Agent fucking ruined what Chaos Theory brought
Prince of Persia- Don't like the combat and the platforming isn't as fun.

Zelda - Hmmm... I liked Wind Waker better, but I'd say it's on par.
Silent Hill - God... Silent Hill Shattered Memories is just legendary. It's so much better than 3 and 4, and on par with 2.
Half-Life - This gen we've only got the episodic content... would be hard to say, since I didn't get the same "WOW" that I got from the first HL2.
Mario - Even when I loved Sunshine, Galaxy is so MUCH better. I haven't tried NSMB though.
Smash Bros. - I'm between the few that likes Brawl better than Melee.

wow very controversial

@lestatdark

cool most seem to be doing well for you!

Mario- better for obvious reasons of the great quality mario games that have come out

Zelda- about an even tie... I love Wind Waker and Minish Cap but Spirit Tracks, Twilight Princess, and Phantom Hourglass were amazing as well.

Resident Evil- worse and by a lot. RE4 and RE0 (plus remakes) were the pinnacle of the series. RE5 is an embarrassment to all those before it. Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles were great (especially DSC) but still not as good as the action adventure ones.

Halo- better. Halo 3 and ODST have been fantastic games. Although Halo 1 was a great game and Halo 2 multiplayer was amazing, you got a better package with the 3rd one and ODST and Halo Wars just expanded the series to so much more.
