Forums - Nintendo Discussion - MWR: the core market didnt shift

I think MWR is a solid statement that things didnt change in 2 years. This belated port is selling on par with last year successful WAW and shows that the amount of interested gamers in third party content remains solid and interested-not lesser. Most likely the sales would have been higher if the game was really new, as theres a good chunk of multiplat wii owners. Regardless, is remarkable to see this game already over 500,000 in such short term. Its selling faster than some first party franchises had, which is a very big achievement for the wii.So, if some biased journalists spout how doomed is the core wii market because Onechanbara zombie slayers tanked, or some country rep is sad and bitter about certain shooter sales, remember, it has nothing to do with where the market is.Is there, and mark my words, Activision knows this all too well. On other noticeable titles, Silent Hill on the wii is performing reponsibly.

ya MWR has been a very good performer for the Wii, hopefully other publishers take notice

Its scaled with the increase in Wii numbers then, or has it remained on par with the old WaW attach?

i think it has remained more on par with the old attach of waw. However, 2k9 was not very stellar in wii sales(still above all else). However, WAW did have the advantage of being on time.

despite the wii's larger install base modern reflex is tracking under world at war.

edit: for reference WaW is at 1.39M now.

yes, but remember that WaW was released on the same day, while reflex was released 2 years later

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

and thats why its so remarkable.

Quite telling, I'd say. But to me it's never really been a huge problem with established franchises.

Yeah it seems fishy to me all this talk from minescule people from large publishers are speaking out against the Wii. Sega top guys said something a long the lines of not abandoning the core Wii market. Then some pion supposedly from Sega says the whole no "M" games on Wii becuase of X,Y,Z. Some nobody in France talks about DSC selling low amounts on Wii only in France, mind you, when its selling quite fine WW. in spite of oversaturation of that genre on Wii.

Then, here's the kicker: MW:Reflex, which seems like it was sent out to die at retail is selling very well for what it is, a 2 yr old port..with 0! marketing. Even WaW received specific marketing for the Wii version. Treat ANY HD game like Activision has treated MWR and I garauntee you that studio will shut down.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

You mean a two-year-old, second-rate port didn't expand the Wii's core market? Gasp! Shock!

I think the sales of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories are more telling. That game pulled 100k in America in three weeks, while its sister game (Homecoming) sold only 200k lifetime in the same territory on the 360. And Shattered Memories is even more of a niche title than Homecoming.

It's said in every thread like this, so I'll say it here first: Core games sell on the Wii if they're what the core market wants. The core market doesn't want more rail shooters or half-arsed ports; it wants games like SH:SM.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
