Forums - General Discussion - Who was the best band/music artist of the last decade?

This was the decade I discovered Metallica. In April 2000 I put the S&M album I got from my mother into our stereo for the first time and was completely blown away. They haven't actually made anything that comes even close to the S&M album they released in 1999 since. But that doesn't matter. To me they have been the best band in the world for most of decade.

Queens of the Stone Age. Personally, I think Songs For The Deaf is the best album of the decade; yes, even better than Kid A and In Rainbows.

top albums of the decade for me:

1. Dig Out Your Soul by Oasis
2. Don't Believe The Truth by Oasis
3. Accelerate by R.E.M
4. All That You Can't Leave Behind by U2
5. Heathen Chemistry by Oasis

SciFiBoy, you need to expand. I don't mean it in a mean way. It's just depressing to see somebody like you who clearly really likes music but only listens to such a narrow range of stuff when, in reality, there's a LOT of really good music out there---it just takes some effort and patience to find.

I cant be blamed for the dire quality (imo) of the stuff people reccomend to me now can I?

in fairness I have had 1 or 2 good reccomendations over the years, though none in the last year or so.

edit: the fact that people say all the music I like is the same shows how little of it they have actually listened to, same genre maybe, but they all have different sounds and lyrics or singers

also, so what if its the same genre? I love the music I like, I have every right to do that and to listen to that music often and talk up the music I like

The music that you listen to doesn't "all sound the same". But in the grand sonic scale of music, it's pretty stylistically similar stuff.

Again, I'm not criticizing your tastes, so there's no need to get defensive.

You basically function within a musical microcosm whose parameters are defined by your own narrow tastes; discovering and coming to appreciate unfamiliar music is daunting, and it isn't always as immediately gratifying as you'd might hope.

But yeah, obviously it's "your right" to only listen to the few bands that you enjoy. Still, if you met a gamer who ONLY played, say, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest and proclaimed all other games to not "be to his tastes" etc, etc, wouldn't you want him to experience a broader range?
