Forums - Microsoft Discussion - No "Real" Pricecut ???

@king

you just dont get it do you.

the fact is it IS only about the hard drive.

so what RAZ said is correct.....

Its not that I don't get "it". I see where you two are coming from. But see where I'm coming from also. The Xbox 360 Elite is a model. A standalone model, that cost $399 at the begginig of last year. This same model, the Xbox 360 Elite, now costs $299. Now, ok, lets (ignore microsofts official statement about their OWN product) and not call it a pricedrop for a second here...ready? ok...what would you call this instance of the "Xbox 360 Elite" being $100 cheaper than it was last year? What term would you use here then...since pricedrop doesn't seem to work

(I could go into all tht walmart money off here and there yada yad, but...nah...lets jus stick to the black version of the console being $100 cheaper than it was last year)...

"On the other hand, Microsoft's new model pricing strategy has done almost nothing to move its average price. Whereas the average Xbox 360 sold for $260 in August, the same hardware sold for $261 on average in September."

Apparently the discontinuation of the Pro unit and replacement by the Elite actually increased the average price of an Xbox 360 by $1. So MS did lie, it's actually a price increase.

I'm gonna be honest...i find this a bit funny...price increase...lol...

and now RAZurrection...umm...with "a hard drive"...plz..what was the entry price of "the elite" on jan 1st 2009, $399, what was the entry price of the elite on jan 1st 2010, $299 - difference $100. dnt try and twist things to appear as they do not...

Sounds to me like you're trying to twist some things yourself. I mean to the neutral observer one would think all they did was increase the space of the hard drive SKU (like they did in 2008...shock and awe!) ...but hey if you want to argue semantics, the MW2 bundle costs the same as the Elites did back in March 2009, albeit with an extra controller (but no HD cables). so for revision.

What was the entry price for a 360 with the largest Hard Drive on April 1st 2009 = $399
What was the entry price for a 360 with the largest  Hard Drive on January 1st 2010 = $399

What was the entry price for 360 with the smallest Hard Drive on January 1st 2009 = $299
What was the entry price for a 360 the smallest with a Hard Drive on January 1st 2010 = $299

What was the entry price for 360 with 256 MB internal memory on January 1st 2009 = $199
What was the entry price for a 360 with 512MB internal memory on January 1st 2010 = $199

The prices stayed the same, the memory increased. Too difficult?

There's a $399 360?

The 250gb 360 is $399.

I agree that the X360 did not get a price cut in 2009. The only thing they did was increase the size of the HDD, which is commonplace to do regularily in this gen (just look at PS3: 60GB--> 40GB--> 80GB -->120GB in less than three years).

X360 Nov 2005: $299/$399
X360 Fall 2007: $279/$349
X360 Spring 2008: €199/€299 (Europe only)
X360 Fall 2008: $199/$299 (€179/€239 in Europe)

So only two price cuts in North America and three in Europe over the course of four years!

I remember a news about 360 droping at $109. sumthing permanently in UK or sumthing tho It was a news here at VGC not too long ago.

Unlike other consoles though, you can buy the 360 at a much cheaper price everywhere. There's always a deal on it.

Really? For how much in the US?

Over here in Europe the X360 is always regular price but almost always bundled with Lego Batman + PURE, and sometimes even a better game.

PS3 is never bundled here for the regular €299 price.

Where are you at ?

For $249, you could have gotten the 360 plus two games and an extra controller at Walmart. Bestbuy had their own deal too.
