But this WAS the year on PS3, $100 drop, revision, Good Software, FFXIII, the kitchen sink, it's all down hill for both HD products IMO.

Nintendo still has alot of cards in they're deck, and in can drop the price of the Wii tomorrow and still make a good profit!

I think once adjustments come in wii could be extremely close to PS2's record.

Great numbers all around. Software is crazy. 52 titles over 100k.

And the ps3 has already used its get out of jail for free card far earlier than they had hoped this gen (PS3 slim) due to the 360's great numbers last year.

It is yet to hit $199, or even $250... And it's touching 1 Million sales in a week.

Im sure Sony have a few more "get out of jail for free card"'s up those sleeves.

Im sure they do, but the slim was usually used to keep sales plugging along long in to the lifespan of the ps2, its been used much earlier this gen due to sony playing catch up, and with expensive devices inside the ps3 i don't forsee anymore price cuts anytime soon.

360 on the other hand can drop the price almost at will.

360 to take hardware sales over PS3 in 2010.

Where have Sony called the new PS3 the "Slim"? Hint - They haven't.

Sony could quite easily slim down the PS3 again, along with plenty more pricecuts to prolong the life of the console.

No it can't. MS want to make profit on it, and board members wont be happy with constant cuts to the machine. Plus, a cut before Natal releases would be dumb... And wont happen.

Sony expected people to buy the PS3 @ £425/$600, their arrogance cost them dear, the ps3 has already lost them lots of money, another re-desingn so soon would show just exactly how hard times have become.

I applaud recent ps3 sales, but the 360's still hanging in there with no official price cut in a long time.

Microsoft were very quiet on both the hardware and software advertising fronts last year, with Halo: Reach and many other stellar games coming throughout this year expect another microsoft marketing blitz that will easily rival if not surpass HALO 3's advertising blitz.

Sony goes for external power supply, new ps3 revision in late 2010 or early 2011, 199$ price point, 250GB HDD, smaller blu-ray drive, expanded, vastly better playstation network service, Final Fantasy 7 Exclusive, Final Fantasy Versus Exclusive, god of war III, GT 5, Killzone 3, something new from media molecule, Uncharted 3, inFAMOUS 2, The Last Guardian, new IP from Insomniac, MAG will get some sort of huge expansion that will pump blood into the veins of the game with massive legs, Quantic dream's 2nd ps3 exclusive (remember the engines done, and better than anything on the market, games will come out fast.)

Sony's preservation will surely pay off.

1st,2nd or Exclusive 3rd party Developers who now have engines that make any competitive platform look out dated:

Gurella Games
Polyphony Digital
Media Molecule (Physics/creation based)
Naughty Dog
Quantic Dream
Team ICO
Santa Monica Studios.

Do people really think that with big games in 2010, the best talent in the industry, the best graphics engines in the industry, all proprietary, Arguably the single most impressive first party line up of developers ever crafted, finally finishing their hard work on their engines, that Sony will simply let the competition win?

Surely the Wii will dominate, Nintendo doing what Nintendo does best. Be happy for them.

But Sony is not going to roll over and die. Microsoft may have Halo, they may have a closing and relatively small lead, but the PS3 is on absolute fire. This is not going to run out.

Because it did it for 99% of the generation, doing it for just another week is insignificant.



Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

it had 2 last year :p and they slashed elite price to 299$.

not only that, they are tons of deals to get the arcade even cheaper.

and a million banned before modern warfare 2.


Oh yeah, i remember, somthing like a mere $30 dollar cut for the 360 around the launch of the slim.

The cost of the 360 arcade actually went UP from £129 to £159 in the UK last year.

So all in all i wouldn't call anything too "official"

Elite drop, Arcade drop once over here and another within two weeks yet again, walmart deal in US and another Walmart deal in US.

 

You're taking UK went up to "prove" that the 360 didn't get any cuts, while the majority of the world got cuts all around (US and Europe)

 

It's weird how you 've agreed that they both did what needed to be done to get sales, but then revert to "Wow, 360 did amazing without having to do anything dramatic like a ps3 slim line".

 

Guaranteed you will do a "Wow, very smart move by MS to go for a 360 slim" whenever it comes out, while making it seem like a desperation move by Sony.
